aimee’s thirdeye should show a popup screen over the radar to show what the thirdeye camera is showing
it had a long throwing range, flash bang effect on explosion, using third eye camera for sight was disabled, and enemies were ( at times randomly) spotted by the crosshair on third eye. it felt useless beyond its explosion effect even with the TEC camera enabled
if the popup screen in shown, then it could probably variable in sight(pixelated) on distance from player to TEC, and TECs crosshair should automatically point in the opposite direction from it landed on
the camera can be limited at 30 frames max, or even skip frames (part of animation of camera like static on a TV), graphics could be lowered in the camera also ( i dont see how this would be a big technical difficulty), it can also be abstracted like you said. also the variable sight on distance would lower performance issues
I don’t see it hurting performance if it is done properly. It would be similar to split screen gameplay on two player, except it won’t require as much performance, considering how small the radar is
