Aim Toggling

(DonkeyDong) #21

I prefer holding everyone… i mean everything…

hold crouch, sprint and aim.

only because quake wars developed the fear of ‘lag zoom’ where you’d hit the zoom, and you wouldn’t zoom right away, i’d hit it again quickly because i notice it doesn’t come up in a quick second, and then suddenly i am zooming but then quickly unzoom… because of that i simply avoid any issues like that by holding it.

so pleaseeeeeee… put in options for all the above! so we can all have tapirs of joy!

Borderlands didn’t have it. That’s enough to make me be concerned and rage.

However, I did get used to it in Borderlands, with a little annoyance, especially when I would switch between playing BC2 and Borderlands.

However, I literally just noticed the Fallout games don’t have it either, but because of its more of accuracy buff and less about aiming right, it felt right.
For the Battlefield series, I remember as far as Battlefield 2, they had sprint break aiming.

Does anyone know if the Enemy Territories games let you do the same?
I have never played QW, but W: ET did not have IS or aiming at all. just hipfire.

(Weeohhweeohh) #24

I am just so use to having to press and hold to aim. I feel it gives me a little bit more maneuverability because all I have to do is release to button and on I go instead of having to click again to get out of aiming mode. Its second nature to me by now (on console). I could see how it would be different on PC.

Though having to hold crouch bothers me, so I hope we can toggle that. =D

(BioSnark) #25

can change it in the .ini on pc.

(Senethro) #26

Cthulu with a minigun, I like it!

(Linsolv) #27

True, I’m speaking as a console player when I say I prefer Toggle ADS. When I play on PC (which is rare but happens sometimes with older games) I do prefer Hold ADS.

(Jess Alon) #28

The only PC game I play right now is Diablo II. And there’s no ADS.

(Bullveyr) #29

Toggle for IS, hold for sprint and crouch.

I prefer toogle for IS because of the usuall delay until you’re actually scoped in and because holding a button interferes with my aiming (I dont have IS on the right mouse button).

Exactly the same here, never get used to holding for teh zoom, thats why I’m getting destroyed long range in QLive… (well I’m getting destroyed any range tho…)

Peace

I guess it’s a bit of a moot point for sprinting. As someone reminded me here, SD has already confirmed One push for sprint (toggle) and hold sprint button for auto SMART movements.

Toggling/Holding IS and crouch however should be user configurable

Use a zoom toggle script in QL

(Apples) #33

Yay, never played that much anyway as my computer broke when QL get out, then I had no PSU, then no screen, then no ram etc etc, allways something, and finaly I had no time to invest that much

I still has no time but as I wont play Brink on the spot I think I’ll stick with QL / ETQW / UT for some time, so I’ll take the time to make a proper cfg.

Peace

True.

As I see it sprint itself in Brink is a toggle, it seems to work more like CoD and not like the “fluent” system in W:ET.

In most modern games sprint is a different mode of movement (you can’t shoot and transition between sprint and walk/run isn’t really instant) whereas in W:ET you simply move faster when hiting sprint.

Still I would like to see the option to deactivate “automated SMART” (only manual with jump and crouch) to get hold sprint.

(Bezzy) #35

Our general rule is that a positive edge on a button interrupts the current mode. I.e. if you are sprinting, and you press ironsight, you’ll be pulled out of sprint, but if you’re ironsighting and then hit sprint, you’ll go into that.

This has proven to feel the most responsive.

Fantastic news \o/

That’s brilliant

However small you think this feature is, I think its very cool. Thanks for putting it in.

(Exedore) #39

That is a general rule. My specific answer is now just as it was then… it’s just a bit more complicated. The key word is “hold”; it’s different on PC if Iron-Sights is set to toggle, in which case sprint will interrupt IS. If you’ve got Iron-Sights set to hold, you’ll have to release the IS key before sprinting will work.

Ooh, thanks for sharing, guys.
