Ahhh error on first map! help the noob!

(KaguyaKiller) #1

Hello.
I’m making my first map, i made a box, put mapcoordmins: 0 0, mapcoordmaxs: 320 -320, bluespawn, redspawn, info_player_deathmatch, the whole thing, then i compile it using first option
When game loads up (sv_pure 0 and g_gametype 2) i use devmap lol(lol = mapname) it loads up, reload, load again, load forth time and crashes… i try again, that time using map lol, then loads up until the end and crashes…
HELP PLEASE!!! :?

(RayBan) #2

its mapcoordsmins, mapcoordsmaxs ( forgot the ‘s’ before the mins/maxs )

(Boosted) #3

also u should put in an ‘info_player_intermission’.

(KaguyaKiller) #4

Thanks
Tryed both, noone of em worked.

(Flippy) #5

No, you don’t? Not as far as I know though…

Are you using the latest ET patch? (2.60)
If so, I believe it is enough to simply create one spawnpoint (team_CTF_redflag or blueflag), one team_WOLF_objective, and one info_player_deathmatch. You don’t need to set the mapcoords (I don’t know if setting them incorrectly can cause an error, but it might, so try it without them first maybe).

I always used these ‘settings’ to test something in a test map and it never failed me. Ok, you don’t have an accurate minimap or anything but that doesn’t really matter when you’re in a test map… You can always set them in a later stage.

Try it like this and see what it does.

EDIT
If that doesn’t work, check the console (press O I believe, in GTKRadiant) and check if there aren’t any compile errors.

if u dont ET will most likely crash since its the view u get when uve connected to the server.

this isnt needed

(Magic) #7

You will get that view from the “info_player_deathmatch”

(Wezelkrozum) #8

maybe it’s easyer to see what the error is?
load the map, wait until it crashes and then, press the ~ on your keyboard and look for an error.

(KaguyaKiller) #9

I Can’t open console, forget? game crashed(froze up)…
but i get a strange error if i dont put /sv_pure 0:
RE_InitWorldMap: Cannot find file maps/.bsp ( = mapname)

(stealth6) #10

Do you have etmin?

if you do when the game freezes press alt+z and look in the ET console, then there should be some red flashing text (an error)

The intermission entity is the entity that you view from at the end of the map, during the intermission time.

The info_player_deathmatch is the ‘spawnpoint’ for spectators, which is what you describe.
You might not need it, I don’t know, but I’m 100% sure you don’t need the intermission entity either. In fact, I have never used one in my life…

I didn’t say everything I told him to use was neccesary, but I was sure it should work, because it has always worked for me.

About the can’t find map error, this is because when you use sv_pure 1, the game only looks in pk3 files for your files. Because your map is not in a pk3 file yet, it can’t find it when you use sv_pure 1. That’s the reason you use sv_pure 0 for testing.

Did you get a view of your map? Does it crash when you are in the limbo menu, when you go spectator, or does it crash in the loading screen, even before you can see your map or the limbo menu?

You could try logging the console to a file, you might be able to see an error then. I believe the command is /set logfile 1 or something…

Haha! All I need to do is to make a hollow box and put in an
info_player_deathmatch and compile. That’s all I need to test out. Atleast when I’m using etpro 3.26 and 2.60b.

Try this tutorial, I used it when making my first map :

i guess either a typing error at mapcoordsmins & max, or wrong coordinates it is. check it vrey carefully, my own experience. in 2.60 u indeed dont need it at all but to use 2.55 i suggest, as then ur future ur maps will be good for both patch. learn right from the beginning to use it.

and yes besides this, u only need a box and a info_player_deathmatch. i used to use a red- and bluespawn too.

most ppl forgot when teaching fisrtboxmap - unless u want to see nothing except pitch black, use a light entity, with let me say intensity 10000 will have enough radius. (yes yes irrelevant spam, i know… )

edit… hmm… i thinked twice… it cant with those coords. then ur map would loaded and only froze when pressing ‘L’ . try installing another ET in an other partition or same disk but to another directory.
