Brink being what it is with customisation and what not i was wondering weather splash damage will continue to support us with free clothes and accessories, i don’t see why we should have to pay for apperal and it would be generally nice of them. im sure once we’ve got all the clothes we’ll get bored and want more. agree? disagree?
Added free support
Umm if you see no need to pay for apparel, why would they feel the need to invest in it?
Fork over the cash or stay eternally drab!
I bet we’ll get some freebies every once in a while, but the majority of our clothing downloads would have to be paid for.
You’re right about wanting more though, I’m absolutely sure about that. As much as customization is a feature, there, to me, doesn’t SEEM to be all that many clothes and stuff. It’s not an inadequate amount at all, it’s a perfectly good amount. The game isn’t close to release yet also, so more could be coming. But it’s my impression that there will be room for more.
Champions Online had the best character customization ever. No other game has even come close.
:hog:
Champions Online is also a superhero based MMO, where customization is the theme of the game, not a team based objective shooter (where customization is usually trivial or absent altogether) like Brink.
this could be a totally impossible idea, but pc-fans having some know-how make new shirts and stuff, SD picking out the best and porting them to xbox and ps3?
This type of thing has been done before, it’ even been done with maps and game modes, so hopefully SD will go ahead and send mod content to us console players.
I’d say 50/50. Put in some content with patches and keep the interest up, generate buzz and sell new copies of the game after the initial release. But you could also offer additional stuff for those starved of sense and not money.
Why not just buy and play on the PC? Not trying to derail or troll but really, console owners say they’re happy with their “cheaper” option but then also have an expectation for games to be nerfed or features ported in some way to compensate for it not being a PC. I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t often mean the PC version sucks as a consequence.
Each to their own but I just see this dynamic is like punching a hot chick in the face so your ugly girlfriend looks better.
Some people don’t have the money for a good gaming rig. Some also don’t want to deal with the hassles of PC gaming, like driver/hardware updates, conflicting errors, etc. not to mention a list of other issues why people prefer console over PC. It takes much more responsibility and a different mindset to be a PC gamer vs a console gamer. It’s not always as easy as, “why not just buy and play on the PC.”
Yeah, I realize Champions Online was a superhero based MMO (I do own the game, after all). I was just commenting on how cool it would be to have that awesome amount of customization options in Brink.
i’d say Brink has a tremendous amount of customization options already. at the least compared to other fps’s.
and i wouldn’t say you were commenting on how cool it would be if etc.
it sounded more as if you were advertising CO
This would only work if I owned a gaming computer, as you have probably guessed i do not, and do not wish to spend another few hundred $$ on a new platform just for mod content.
I’m not asking for a nerfing and i don’t understand your dislike for features being ported to a platform that, i assume, you don’t own. I don’t understand why any gamer, pc, xbox, PS3, ect. would actively dislike the idea of any other platform getting more features.
How would porting good mod content make the PC version suck? The game would already be out so it’s not like whether SD chooses to port to consoles or not would effect the PC version in any way.
I simply don’t follow your analogy, I’m not trying to make the pc version worse I’m just hoping that mod created content; maps, clothing, modes, weapon skins, whatever, can also come to us console players.
I don’t even mind the idea of paying some small ‘porting fee’ for this content, a dollar for a collection of weapon skins and/or clothing, another dollar for a map/mode.
Not trying to give or take offense here:D
Patches are about making sure the game play is fair and the software is stable. Added clothes and textures should not be expected since they’ve already gone through those. The clothes let you customize colors at different locations I don’t see how they could become boring. Do you own 500 different shirts and pants? Brink will probably have more than that. Why not just update your own wardrobe?
@H0rse - The barriers to PC ownership are not as steep as they were previously. Things like patches, live subscriptions, accessory costs, DLC, RRoD, HDD requirements etc etc are quite quickly eroding all the pluses consoles once had. I’m just saying it’s annoying that console gamers want more but instead of moving to a platform that can offer it they instead want a watered down or costly alternative created on consoles.
@longbow - It’s not so much making the PC version suck (we’ll accept that sloppy ports DO SUCK), more so it’s giving the perception it sucks or is at best equal to a console. I just see that as a kind of short sighted approach. The PC offers what you want but you don’t want to invest in it directly so ask for some kind of pseudo support. Problem is that it debases the PC, you don’t feel there is value in buying a PC to play games and so the PC continues on a downward spiral. This then means the PC gets less support from developers which further devalues it in the eyes of gamers. Yet all the while any unique, PC specific, perk it offers gets chewed up and spat out in some console form (usually at a price see Live versus PC multiplayer) . I’m just scared that at some point those people who are eager to make maps and content just won’t be able to because the games won’t even exist on the PC. You’ll then be at the mercy of publishers deeming it worthy of making content (and charging for it), then we’re all screwed.
I actually really don’t blame the gamers, the PC has nobody to champion its strengths unlike the consoles and that’s the biggest issue.
Of course I do hope they give you additional content on the consoles as well as on the PC. Hey, mod/map support for consoles would be good too although other than UT3 I’m not sure what barriers from MS and Sony prevent this from being done.
Maybe it’s just me, but when I took a look at the character gallery on Brink’s website, it seems to me that many of the characters look the same. I’m really hoping there are going to be more options than what they show there.

[B]Also, is there some reason none of the characters in Brink are female?
I hope a future expansion will allow the ladies to get in on the action, too.

yep, SD if had some F personell and they have some influence on rest, you still have chance[not big, really].
same was true for ZM.
p.s.
its could lead to game ban, because gender discrimination, in some countries.
next step "every ingame characters 1/4 should be black, every 1/4 spanish, every 1/4 physically impaired, every 1/4 are should be “bad russkies/chinese/french/afgan/iraqis/indian/venezuelian or gay ot least” © institutionalized in upcoming ESA ruleset refresh.
