With some friends we had the idea of developing the best plugin ever imagined… (for us). It consists of a channel between ET and a chat messenger like Trillian. (Trillian is very open to plugin development).
The main idea is that messages like “xxxxx has just signed on” should appear as messages when you’re playing ET, and also messages from selected users in your contact list could appear here.
Just imagine… You are playing, your boss comes online and a message appear in your screen. He says “hi, eerything ok?” and you type something like “/icqsay myboss Hi there!allright” and continue shooting as if nothing had happened, without dealing with fullscreen problems, popup windows, … I don’t I have this particular problem… perhaps a friend of mine 
Now the main problem is that I have very little idea about ET architecture, though I have the code I couldn’t to very much. I would appreciate any of the following:
- a place to put some code that will be run periodically
- information about making an add-in, not a monolothic one (it would be desirable not to replace main dll’s to use this plugin, that would prevent us playing with shrub for example)
- whether opening files, communications via IPC or whatever could cause problems to ET, and ways to fix it
- any idea or whatever you like! Not to mention support or help programming this!
