Add A Spotting Feature.

(Black) #1

A little help out there for newer players. I think it’s better to call it “targeting” but spotting sounds more generic.
But to clarify what I mean by this:

Spotting
If a player aims down sight and press the F key whilst looking at an enemy a small red indicator (like vassili’s heartbeat sensor or deadeye) will appear on top the enemy. The spotter’s character will also yell: “Target the [Enemy merc class]”
The indicator will disappear when one of the two things happen:

  1. The enemy is out of the spotters line of sight.
  2. 3 seconds pass by.

This is just a more faster, easier, and visually appealing feature to tell your teammates to spot important enemy mercs like the medic, engineer, or the sniper in the back.

I never knew that was a thing. (over 300 hours in) lol
This is likely because I never use iron sight.

I do however remember hearing an audible “enemy spotted” sort of thing from others.

Thanks for the tip.

As much as I like this idea - perhaps it’s something that could be included for a future recon merc? Not just any merc.

The reason why I say this is because the already implemented “spotting” ability (such as Vassili’s heart-beat sensor or Red-Eye’s spotting vision) is unique to the Recon class type. If any merc could have this ability it would SEVERELY push down the recon classes viability and usefulness in pubs and comp.

I like the idea though - and we still have 1 recon merc left to go, so it might be something they could implement with her? :stuck_out_tongue: Guess we’ll see. Can’t see it being implemented for all class use though :s

Put “insightful” to compensate those dislikes.

I am not sure if it’s really a good idea. I lack arguments against though, but it may step a bit too much on Recon’s work. And anyway, if you want someone to kill your priority target, there’s voicechat : it’s faster and you don’t need targeting. :stuck_out_tongue:

@SnakekillerX facepalm

(Ghosthree3) #6

This isn’t Battlefield.

(Faraleth) #7

@Ghosthree3 I never played Battlefield - was the actually a function in that game? XD

(excuse my lack of modern-military-shooter knowledge)

It is unique to the recon class :open_mouth: .

Hmm, well adding a V chat that says “target the medic or engineer” is always helpful :).

But, then IR Goggles and Hearbeat Sensor will be useless if everyone can spot enemies’. :hushed:

We’re two then. Anyway, I am pretty sure spotting something on the map is not an uncommon feature in multiplayer video games. They got this in Warframe too, but you usually use it to show to your teammates where the loot is.

(SnakekillerX) #11

lmao ok i didn’t read the title properly… “ADD”.
If it makes you feel any better, I probably wouldn’t bother trying to do it either.

But I’m still sure I’ve heard people say things like “enemy spotted”. I’m guessing this was the voice menu, which I also don’t make any use of.

On the bright side, it earned me 2 "LOL"s. haha

(XavienX) #12

Nah man, ain’t Battlefield. This will start defeating the purpose of Recon classes.

(kibloy) #13

It was, caused as much rage among the more hardcore players as you would imagine. Personally I liked it, it encouraged team work and prevented too much camping on large maps. But the whole mechanic wouldn’t work in a 5v5 environment where game play is more tactical.

Yes. Both minimap and 3D world markers, bright orange.

(Jurmabones) #15

This. OP is a terrible idea.

(CCP115) #16

Give this to Phantom.

(MilkyBear) #17

How about nerf the recon further then?

Yes (at least for the game i played, Battlefield p4f), you can spot with any class, then if you are a recon (sniper) you have a chance to spot up to 6 enemies close to each other by using ability points on spotting. Was fun spotting 4 enemies trying to flank the flag and see them getting slaughtered by my teammates.

(MilkyBear) #19

How about no

(1AGRESSOR) #20

yes please quick spot

just look at the direction of enemy press key and he gets spoted and shown on radar for maybe 7 seconds also make spotting work trough fences that how it worked in BP4F and we also had satellite surveillance all classes and recon class had additional motion sensor something similar to Vasili
