Accessibility To Weapon Skins

(TepidJesus) #1

After a brief…ummmm…break from DB (9 months) I have come back to find a lot has changed. But what stuck out to me most was the new weapon skins, so, here is where my thought begins.

At this current point in time the only way to get weapon skin cases is by purchasing them, or from getting a “very occasional” (quoted from releae notes) case drop from a game, and even if you do get one from a game you still need to buy a key to unlock it. I would not be against paying for these cases if there was a reasonable chance for me to get a decent skin in a decent condition, but currently the chance of me getting a skin in a condition that looks decent especially with the current “wear” models of the skins being so harsh.

So I was wondering if we could make these cases purchasable for ingame currency for example 25k credits, I would be interested to know what @stayfreshshoe thought about this and why weapon skin cases aren’t purchasable using in game currency at the moment.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not against spending money on “the shiny stuff” (I have spent a lot of money on the game in my time) but I feel that the way they have modeled the case system makes skins very inaccessible to someone who doesn’t have bucket loads of cash floating around.

on events, the key is buyable with credits.

Yeah, I feel like needing to buy keys with real money is kinda taking a page from TF2, and not a page I liked from it.

@Cordyceps

But also being one of the few reasons that TF2 is still alive today

@stayfreshshoe is this confirmed? you seemed to indicate that keys MIGHT be purchasable with currency from future events.

Separately, I’m surprised single keys aren’t one of the drops from the new Arsenal crates and/or purchasable with credits. Considering how good the chances are of getting a mediocre skin in unrecognizable condition it’s a bit cruel to keep them behind a pay wall. SD hasn’t mentioned anything about the condition upgrade system in a while…

I’d rather the crates formerly known as Arsenal contain things that help players to progress. Keys for weapon cases are pure cosmetics.

What in there helps players progress other than credit boosters though? The only ways to progress in DB are to get better at the game and unlock all mercs.

Crafting any loadout rarer than bronze is just cosmetic progression and it’s foolish to rely on RNG for a bronze loadout when you can purchase directly with credits. You can’t even use weapon kits for bronze correct?

The “Progressive Advancement Cases” (had to look it up what they are actually called) contain things that give you different loadouts or help you craft new loadouts. And loadouts (even bronze) help new players to try out different perks and find the loadout that supports their play style the most. Which is a kind of progression in the early game.

I’d be fine though with the cases changing after a certain level and also containing purely cosmetic items like keys for weapon crates.

Credit boosters and keys thats all i need. every thing else they throw at us in crates amd after match drops are just completely useless to me.
