about the sachel charges.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #1

So shatchel charges are a lvl 20 ability that I really enjoy (trying) to use, they are simple to place and conceal the blast radius seems to be effective there’s two things I dont’t get.

 1. Like the engineers mines they don’t garuntee and incap which to me seems a little off balance for a lvl 20 ability. If you’re going to set an explosive and walk away shouldn’t it be able to do the job?

 2. They are very easy to destroy maybe give them a life bar like the mines? Again if you’re supposed to leave them and try to sneak in an explosion in the midst of capturing and objective or pinch point, wouldn’t a little more health so a single stray round won’t ruin your plans?

(wolfnemesis75) #2

You can set up to 3 satchel charges. and they are pretty powerful and a good deterrent around an obj. most things in this game act more as a deterrent for the unaware or heedless. even the turrets dont shoot right away, you can run around them before they shoot. mines just knock you down unless you have little health.

place on the roof of an objective area for instant kill

(PanzerIV) #4
place on the roof of an objective area for instant kill
Why? Because no one will see it or because more of the explosion will hit the head thus making greater damage? I thought explosions couldn’t “headshot”.

I didn’t experiment much enough with the Satchel but I find it way too long when you aim at it for the stupid (F) interaction key to appear so you can finaly activate it. Seems like I have to aim a dot in the middle of the big circle and wait 2 seconds before I can interact with it.

(Nexolate) #5

You plant them on the roof so they can’t spot it as easily. I find the best tactic is to nestle them near computers and other tech so they blend in. Behind computer monitors, etc.

As for their planting, it can be a bit finicky at times. I wish you could just hold F and move around, then when it finds an appropriate spot it stops and starts planting. Currently you have to find a spot (which can be really hard with the afore-mentioned tactics) and then press and hold F. Annoying when you’re under pressure.

But yeah, Satchels are freaking amazing. Why? Because they remain in the world after you respawn. So if you get pushed off a defence objective and they start hacking, repairing, whatever; you can just remote detonate a few or all of them to either push them off or outright kill them. Fantastic defensive weapon.

While we’re on the subject, I’m not sure why the Soldier has them when they’re such an offensively oriented class. The idea of planting Satchel Charges and lying in wait to detonate them, at least from my experience, isn’t something that a traditional Soldier does very often. It’s really only useful on defence, and then you can get much more immediate results out of just using Molos and Flashes.

Nexo

EDIT: Methinks they might’ve benefitted the Operative class better. Sneaky-sneaky, y’know? I’ve never really had an occasion where EMP Nades have saved the day, but have had tonnes of good objective saves from Satchels.

You just have to aim at them and press F once, that then starts the detonation process. It takes a second or two for the actual explosion and before they detonate they create huge sparks.

(Jamieson) #6

Before the panel is opened on Security Tower you can plant them inside it and the enemy wont even see it. Had quite a lot of fun killing people with that.

(Nexolate) #7

That sounds like a good spot. Must be murder getting down there though if your team’s not already dominating. They can see Sec drop down into that area practically from spawn.

emp is good for attacking. throw one in a room and the turrets stop working. ive used it on reactor a few times as well as other maps. satchel looks good but i havent used it much. soldier is my least played class

He was referring to the god awful system of waiting for the game to realize what you want to do before you’re allowed to interact with it.

This applies to everything that the magic “onebuttondoesall” key interacts with.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #10

How many objectives are their roofs on in the game? That sounds like a decent idea though sec.

(Mustang) #11

I got taken out from a roof satchel during the first Shipyard objective
This was the first time I’d seen it, so in future I shall try to remember this possibility

(KAS--Will) #12

That’s why I prefer satchel charges over Mines… mines you have to predict where they’ll walk, and even then, their not always a kill… however, with SC’s, you just place them at the objective, and fight off any hostiles, then when they come for the objective… “Boom goes the dynamite”. I’ve even laid satchels on the bots path on CCity, and not only disabled the bot, but received a multi-kill (4+ kills, no joke).

(Nexolate) #13

I’ve used a similar tactic on Aquarium with the VIP. There’s a particular doorway they have to pass through and you can lay satchels all along the frame. I think I netted 3 kills and neutralised the hostage, good times.

Nexo

im sure i have buffed people that have not been glowing with the [press F] marker on them. im pretty sure i just point at people and press, it choses the best thing to do to them. i have often buffed people who are behind me too.

(iFork) #15

Satchel charges are gold, plant them at random objective places and watch for the meter to rise and once it does detonate it :'D

(Smoochy) #16

meter? eh? i never realised there was one. you mean it shows when enemy is near? if so i need to have nother play as i just thought you blew them up.

btw - how do you blow all 3 up at same time?

(Nexolate) #17

This is explained in game during loading screens and in the Dossier menu. Equip Satchel Charges (as if you were going to place one) and press Grenade (G on PC by default).

Nexo

Oh yeah. Aquarium is even better, because the hostage goes down easily, and usually medics hover right behind him, that’s why I wait for the VIP to my charges, and sent them off, so the satchels deal with the VIP, and I deal with the hostage.

the soldier gets them to help defend his HE charges, or other devices. (hack box, CP etc.)
Set up a few satchels around the door or whatever, THEN arm the HE charge.
Find a nice spot to hide and wait for someone to try and freeze your charge and KA-BLAM!
I really like using them in terminal. After the hack box is on, place a few nearby then go around
behind the room so you’re hidden but can still see through the glass. When they try to de-hack,
blow 'em to hell! :stroggbanana:
