Ability idea: Sabotage

Enemies deployables turns against the enemy team.

Whether this ability could be implemented to an already existing merc, or introduced to a new merc entirely, is a different can of worms.
The time it would affect deployables, range and cooldown would require balance testing. Sabotaging could be helpful for pushing towards objectives. Any sabotaged sentry/mine kill, med station heal would be rewarded points to the merc using sabotage ability.

The only thing I’m not sure, is whether sabotaging snitching device and heartbeat sensor would be OP, and should be left alone.

I’ve tried spinning this into a full merc idea but I never quite flushed it out.

Idea #1: SNITCH-like device, maybe smaller. Applies a hack to deployables in x range and field of view that takes t time to complete. If the device is shot, or the deployables are picked up before the hack finishes, the hack stops. Deployables placed after the initial hack aren’t affected. Anything that gets hacked flips its team ownership, but can’t be retrieved by anyone. Hacked ammo stations explode dealing damage to enemy team.

Idea #2: Line-of-sight hack, requires LoS and t time with active ability. The only hint that a deployable is in the process of being hacked is an animation by the merc. Can only hack 1 deployable at a time.

It’s a hard thing to balance, but it could be quite fun.

Indeed. Ability concepts should go into Mercenary Suggestions (or in my dedicated ability idea megathread).

Only issue I’m finding here is hacking health stations- if I were an Aura, I wouldn’t want my health station to suddenly start healing enemies. HB sensors and SNITCHs are less of a problem, since people are usually super quick to destroy them anyways.
