Said it before and will say it again. Promod is 1.6 QW, and all the “restrictions” are just via server config for league play. You don’t play promod vanilla with restrictions, its practically the same, but it balances out the infantry game and runs like cake in comparison. Go check out the change list people, I am fairly sure most everyone against it has never even taken a peek or played on it…
Abilities and upgrades
but the discussion is (currently) about competition restrictions, not Promod.
I accept the opposite, I play pub with pub rules and when I’m bored being spammed to death by some nub sitting on his hil mortaring the base I simply quit the game and go elsewhere…
Competition restrictions are here for a reason, at least in QW, and I find it funny that most of the people who criticise these restrictions are mostly people who never tried to play competitive @ QW… If we spam the hell with 2 or 3 oblit + 1 cyclop + one desi and the tormi up, please tell me how on earth would gdf be able to deploy a friggin mcp for exemple? And I’m not so sure you would be able to enter a building such as valley with 4 hyperblasters and 2 tech inside, I’m talking bout ppl being able to use the hb correctly indeed.
Anyway guyz, still wondering: why didnt you setup your own league rules and tried to organise some sort of competitions? This way you would have seen why the restrictions are here.
Regarding promod only, I’m glad to play at nirvana when I can with no restrictions at all, simply reduced spread and everyone’s speed increased.
Now I’m not aware that promod crippled any vanilla game recently… yes its somehow a different universe, but heh, comp player try vanilla dont they? So you are welcome to try promod, or to play your own scrims with vanilla mod.
I admit that the gap beetween vanilla and promod in etqw was a bit hard to cross, but this wasnt really from the difference in levels but also cuz of the multiples reboot n co due to the engine.
Anyway its neither the time nor the place to discuss this I think… We should wait n see who’s gonna make a promod and discuss from there.
Dark, I have played all the versions of ETQW and ET available and played comp in other games. As said previously I have also played ETQW with restrictions and also without and I know which one is better.
If I don’t like something its not because im following some Clan base admin blindly its because I know its not going to be balanced well. Brink is being targetted at a new player audience and if a comp scene emerges things will most likely be changed to enure the game is balanced for a completely different audience. The reason why Games like Q3 stay very close to vanilla is because the game is already aimed at a hardcore audience so they don’t have to change alot.
Either way I don’t understand why you would kick up so much a fuss when the Vanilla version of the game isn’t going to be changed because SD isn’t going to listen to the minority when designing or marketting there game.
I can understand a vehicle hold on some objectives. However, asymmetrical team abilities, weapons (+spread) and objectives don’t matter in stopwatch for those playing the map as a series of objectives and not just a series of firefights.
Regarding a classic (quake/unreal) run n’ gun or dogfight feel, that’s exactly what I felt was destroyed by having no spread without also dropping the damage values of the weapons and increasing damage over range drop-off. It means firefights were short, largely influenced by who fired first and ultimately unsatisfying. @Inferno: it’s not the only way Promod can be configured, it’s just the way the small Promod player base wants to play.
I assumed that this is still pretty much the same convo as before from skimming the posts. ETQW competition restrictions only differ from that of the pub because of the 6v6 instead of 12v12 (originally 16v16). I personally don’t think that Brink will require any restrictions as it is designed on a much smaller scale. Anything that causes obvious balance issues will most likely be dealt with, but I see no reason to remove or change anything else. I might just be less reserved than other promod players though.
I guess it’s because most people prefer to play the game with the amount of players it was intended for. Still, having a lower number of players is no reason to do stuff like spread reduction and such.
For me that’s really good to hear.
