This is exactly the format I use for one of my 7 ET servers. I password my [ND80]Knute Rockne server (IP 207.44.206.51:27962) at night with a password that is posted openly on my forums. We manage to have some much higher quality games. I figure that if someone can at least take the time to visit a forum, read a sentence or two, then they have progressed farther than some of these people that show up on non pwed servers.
A server idea.
Well yeah but real newbies I mean the type of “If I don´t get a kill in 5 secs I´m outta here” will be removed. And also those newbies that can´t even read
will be exterminated.
The page wouyld look like this:
For this week d - d of m yyyy
The passwords are:
IP.Ip.IP.IP Password
ip.ip.ip.IP Password
and so on. The passwords should be changed weekly and the servers should run different campaigns. This would only need a little work and result in a series of good MP matches.
I am a computer programmer/ web developer and right now I am very slow at work. I surf a lil and work a lil, very soon I will be so slammed I wont see the light of day for 6 months(Server side software Upgrades and New projects about to kick off)
Jahuu: I think I follow you now, but that would require a higher level of organization of server admins. I’m also not sure they’d latch onto the idea of puting their server info in a more common pool area, either. In theory it’s not a bad idea, but I’m not sure whether server admins would want to. If you had a compiled list of servers with passwords at one location, suddenly the smacktards might start showing because instead of having to visit many sites / forums to find passwords, they have a one-stop-shop to get them. Anything to make it easier for them will draw them in. Having to go to one place for many passwords would draw them in if they found out by small chance. The key is making a person work a little bit more for a good server. The people who care will. A compiled list would just be another step closer to life on open public servers.
Who knows, though… it may work. /me shrugs
ND80: I’ll try to hunt down your forums [edit: n/m–i see your signature :D) and check out your server. I just did a ping from my linux box at home via ssh to your IP and it’s quite peachy
How many players is it, and how full is it generally in the evenings (I’m CST)?
The password is leprechaun.
It’s set up now for 30 public spots. I usually leave the server non pwed during the day and set the password around 8 PM EST. Last few nights, there have been some very good games going. That is also one of the ones I have set for the 6 map campaign. Anyone is welcome to join, there are some very good players there at night.
erm, it is?
servers will build their own reputations, severs quality players have added to favourites that they automatically check when looking for a game. give it a little time and you’ll find servers more heavily populated with regulars.
