hey ppl, i love all the new maps but im rather disappointed about 1 thing.

allies are 99% of the time the attacking force, the only map that i know where allies are on defense is railgun. i dont know anything about map making but if there are some ppl that are gonna make new maps pls make some with allies on defense for a change pls.

I’m working on a dual objective map :p, so both attack and defend
EDIT: Cool this was my 100st post

Am working in a team for a new Overlord campaign - Map 2 will be axis objective orientated, allies haveto hold a place for a certain time

I kinda agree w/ topic. It would be nice to get a variation in force positions… It seemed to be the same way in rtcw too. Surely, there were more senarios in ww2 in which the allies had to defend something instead of always being on the attack (then represented w/ in the current maps).

It would also be nice to see some campaigns based on the Eastern (east right?) European theater. Ie. Stalingrad. But in order to do that a mapper would have to create some Red Army skins for the allies… or else it just wouldnt feel right.

Hi Thanatos, I know u
Yeah, this bothers me. I rather play Allies, but I get sick off offensive work too, then I want to defend, with a new team and such. But since this is mostly impossible with the current maps, new maps with defensive objectives should be made. But rather not something like Railgun, you know what I mean, that they all stack on the tug and the Allies have no chance of defence…

I agree with you Thanatos, thats why I am making most of my maps as Allied defensive maps. If all goes well, I will try and make some russian front maps as well (key words: if all goes well).

Thanatos, I felt the same. That is why my new map is strickly Axis offence, Allied defence.
It is called Berserk (beta 2), and it is still a beta version. But it is “out there”, on some servers. Try it! Comments and feedback on Berserk (beta 2) can be sent to my email: “fluffpower @ hotmail.com
Thanks in advance!
In this map (it is a small map) you will be able to play as Axis and fight on the offence for the objectives (Axis must steal the secret documents and take them to a telephone).
This map needs a lot of feedback. Please help me make it better. I havent put it on a server/ftp myself (because I dont have access to one), but there are some server that run it (occasionally).

Mapname: Subterranean(WIP)
Author: Kyle Moller (saberopus)
Preview link: non yet, sorry
Map description:

After the bitter struggle to relieve the axis of a hold of war gold in Tobruk, the Allies have fled to an abandoned mine 27 miles southeast of the city. Withint the cavernous recesses of the earth they hid the gold while waiting for their evacuation airlift to arrive. Unfortunately for the starved and staggering allied team, the axis soldiers have tracked their movements to the abandoned tunnels.

Three gold crates must be returned to the garage above the mines by the axis within the time limit.
Version: v.02
Objectives: Work in Progress, but here’s the almost final structure.

The allies spawn at the bottom of 3 mine levels, a large cavern with many precipices and ledges. The allies must set up 2 MG nests on this level and one on the 2nd level to ward off the axis.

The axis must make their way through a variety of routes to the gold.

AXIS:

  1. Use dynamite to take out a patch of rubble blocking the 2nd level

  2. pass through the allied 2nd level defenses (1 MG) and take gold crate #1 from side passage

  3. take either the main entrance (thru a small bunker and ladder) or side entrance( down ladder and across footbridge (must be BUILT) to the second and third gold crates, both on the last level.

    ALLIES:

  4. Stop the axis from dynamiting the rubble

  5. stop the axis from retrieving the first gold crate

  6. stop the axis from retrieving the second gold crates by blowing open a mine shaft

  7. stop the axis from retrieving the 3rd gold crate on the platform (3rd level)

special thanks go to www.massassi.net editors for ideas

THAT’S MY CURRENT PROJECT. ALLIES ON DEFENSE  SEQUEL TO GOLDRUSH. THERE YOU HAVE IT

Just to be different…

I kind of like the idea that Alles attack and Axis defend. When playing on a new map, you know what you’re supposed to be doing without having to ask, it’s helpful for newbies. If a player wishes to defend, they can join Axis but if he’s in an attacking mood they can join Allies, and stick with that throughout the whole campaign without needing to switch sides depending on the map. Also in an interview (gamespy.com I think) SD’s intention was to keep it to only Allies attacking. They didn’t mention Railgun though, I guess that one slipped through.

That said, mappers are free to do what they want, and I do enjoy the change of pace on Railgun since I only ever play Allies, it gives my brain a rest and I don’t get stressed out when my teammates just sit back and don’t do any objectives. Also generally I think the other 5 official maps all favour the Axis, for if both teams have newbies then by default Axis will always win (they seem to win about 75% of games I’ve played). So at least having maps the opposite way around will even things up.

newbies should read map description then they don’t need to ask what to do. or when they get a new map run it on their own system first to explore a bit, that’s how i do it atleast.
