A request for SD

(Charles Atlas) #1

Before I even start I want to say that I haven’t seen anything about this, so if I have missed it, I’m sorry. Yeah I know this is long, not trying to start a flame thread either.

I think we deserve to at least know what’s going on with the game we spend our hard earned money on. After a few weeks of playing this game and enjoying the majority of it, I am finding it harder and harder to justify that money that I spent. I probably won’t be returning this game for a few reasons: I won’t get enough to buy another good game, and despite the problems the game is fun when it works.

There is one thing, however, that will be enough for me to take this game back: if I knew the game was not going to receive the tweaks and updates it deserves.

Everybody knows about the lag issue, and that has been addressed in the blog updates, and SD says they are coming out with the patch relatively soon, so that’s not an issue.

There’s already a free DLC pack coming out with the promise of new maps to enjoy, so the thirst for new content is being quenched. So unless the overall topic of this post is true, they’ll probably be coming out with more. That’s the hope anyway.

So here’s what I would like from SD: An update on the issues that they know, or should definitely know about. It’s clear that they read the forums, but the problem is with some of the posts here and in the blog that are about the updates. They say they’re working on the lag issues, and coming out with maps. But they have failed to even acknowledge the issue that just about everyone wants: game lobbies. (There are other issues that many people want addressed, I’m just using this one to make my point.)

And this is my main concern: SD has given up trying to fix the broken. I’m not saying they have, I’m concerned that they may have thrown in the towel.

I think they owe it to us to let us know if they are ever going to fix the game, and what problems they are, are not, or can not fix. Why can’t they just say they are considering a lobby system? If they can fix it, but won’t, then my question is why aren’t you?

We paid good money for your product and I think SD owes it to us to give us this information. I know they’re not just sitting around doing nothing, they’re probably busy doing developer stuff, but if there are updates, they could be more informative. It’s not like this is some sort of mystery we should have to solve to find out if they’re going to support their product.

So all that just to ask if SD will give us a lobby, which I grant you is a good idea for console versions. Being a little more concise might help?

However that’s quite a big change so if the do it will be a while yet. They need to make the game stable first or there won’t be anyone left to enjoy a lobby.

I’m not just asking for lobbies, I’m asking for a more clear and informative update about what they plan to do with Brink. All they’ve said is new maps and lag fixes, but they aren’t even addressing the other major issues. I want to know if they’ve given up.

It’s not up to them. Bethesda have the final say about how much money will now be spent ‘fixing the broken’ as you put it - and that extends to stuff like introducing fundamental changes to the base code for things like lobbies. It’s a cost>benefit analysis, I’m afraid, and as such it’s out of SD hands. SD were probably expected to provide some level of initial support for Brink post-release, but don’t go getting your hopes up for a serious overhaul of the existing game. That kind of thing costs money - serious money - and if Bethesda feel their title has performed well enough to justify additional financial and practical investment, then it might happen.

It might.

They’ve already released announcements in which they give thoughts on the current state of the game. Your problem if you don’t read them and start being a drama queen over it on the forums.

a Lobby system has good aspects, but I also hate a Lobby System. Matchmaking is a more user friendly system and better for casual gamers. I don’t enjoy being kicked out by hosts for being good at games or listening to some people talk gibberish and awful crap waiting for a lobby to fill. Matchmaking has more pros than a Lobby System. Sorry. Also, there is an update for Brink here:http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/05/20/brink-–-an-update-on-updates/

The money the get to work on any content after the release is really questionable.

Look at UBI games: splinter cell, AC:B, Settlers 7… If you go to their forum, the riots are incredible. Every game has problems and they only put enough effort to fix SOME issues and even these few issue only work for SOME people SOME of the time. They left Splinter Cell: Conviction completely unplayable by more than half of the community. I stopped playing because it was rare to be able to get through one multiplayer mission without freezing.

Once they realize that it’s taking too much time and money to fix things, they will cut support off and the forums will slowly die off. It’s just how it works for UBI, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it here as well.

Do you know where such announcements can be read by drama queens like me?

I specifically said that I haven’t seen any, which is why I wanted the information.

With this in mind, I’m going to safely assume that the game will be fixed. Although this game hasn’t garnered as much success as the Fallout franchise, Bethesda is a reliable company. SD and Bethesda will get it done, I’m sure.

at the end of the day it’s their name that gets tainted not bethesda so they obviously want to work these things out, the hardcore fans will remain faithful anyways but I’m sure they want to keep everyone and satisfy the people if they can.

I think what the OP wants to hear which is what all console owners want to hear (okay, 99.9999%) is a definitive yay or nay on the lobby deal.

Basically, is it going to happen or should we move on because its a definite no?

I just hope the issue isn’t being dodged because if its a no, most current owners will slam on the brakes and tell people not to buy it. Or so they may fear anyway.

(mrsims31) #13

I’m sure he saw that and he already stated in OP that he was aware of the patch for the lag. This doesn’t address what he’s looking for.

(Bakercompany) #14

Exactly. Not to sound arrogant, but they owe us the lag fix. That should come with the starter package =)

The lobby topic is the next-most important topic for console guys (at least considering thread density on the subject).

Fixing lag and adding lobbies would save this game on consoles. I think it will make the difference between a game that maintains less than 3000 players at peak time, to one that will probably keep 10,000 or more.

I just want to say again that I’m not looking for an update only on the lobby situation. I just wanted to know WHAT they were planning on fixing. The list of issues is long, including the lobbies, the character customization and voice changing, the game types, the AI, etc. They’re being more cryptic and secretive over these types of things.

Thank you mrsims31, I have already seen most all of their updates and I would not have posted this if they had given the information I was asking for. Sorry if the OP was unclear about that.

Yeah this is pretty much what I’m going for here, but again not just on the lobbies, on the other issues as well.

Sorry for double post
