A recent lack of activity?

I’m not trying to be harsh when I say this, but the game is extremely boring. I’m aware that it’s in its early stages, but how much could the game actually change from its base structure? In my opinion, any change from what it is now won’t be nearly enough.

It’s just as repetitive as any other game. I’m not from ET or any of the older games SD put out. My main game was and still is CoD4. I respect the fact that you guys admire what was done in ET and previous games, but trying to push an idea that was good once rarely ever turns out to be successful. I played this game as much as I could for about two weeks, got tired of it, and haven’t touched it since then.

The concept is there, but the execution just won’t be enough to capture a decent-size audience; especially with the upcoming releases of next-gen consoles. I hope the $120 I put towards the funding of this game ends up proving me wrong, but as it stands, it will be pretty hard to do so.

Where do you feel are the biggest issues? What would you like to see change?

Not that I answer for drfraggot here, but : http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/36547-What-we-want-for-DB

(Anti) #144

I’ve read that thread already, relax! I’m after drfraggot’s feedback in this case though

I got a bit worried about the thing MrEd and Anti said. At a point you have to think if its worth to invest money in a map or leave it as it is.
I thought SD wants to make money with the game. DB will be free so you guys dont get any money for the core game itself, but the core game has some real bad maps which do not convince ppl to spend money on the game. LB and Whitechapel are imo bad. I dont like them and the fun level on the two maps is very low. And now you say, you have to think wether you invest time/money on these maps because they could cost too much? The maps are awful, many guys who downloaded DB and play these two maps might think: Lucky me, didnt spend any money for this game, the maps are not fun.
Saving costs on the maps is the worst thing you can do, at least for me. I dont need billions of weapons and stuff, what I really need are good maps. Take some of the suggested maps in this thread, I want to add Salvage from ETQW, and look how they are designed. Dont copy them, but try to get the layout into the DB maps. I dont mean with layout how they look and stuff, but the concept behind the relationship between attackers spawn - defender spawn - objective.
Good maps keep people playing, not 100 different layouts and weapons.

Absolutely 2000% agree !
Maps are the primary and biggest issue ! People just don’t like them and save money on this is not really the best idea imo
Maps are more than 50% of the game, and actually this is more Brink maps than ET maps. And I really don’t like the brink’s maps layout

What is the core game? We’re still in alpha, the core game is being defined still.

We’ve had a lot of feedback about maps recently, we’ve read the threads and we understand what you folks are saying. We’ll see what we can do but it will take time, don’t expect to see anything like considerable changes next patch or even the one after that, but we will keep tweaking based on feedback.

Now lets stop flogging this particular dead horse for a bit and come back to it after an update or two

OK ! nice to ear this !
If something is on the road then I stop talking about this. Waiting for the “Maps update”

but that was really needed to talk about this major problem.

(Kl3ppy) #149

for me the actual core game is what should be available after the release to all guys. I hope all the maps are free4all and you dont have to buy mappacks ala battlefield.

Dont worry, I think that everybody here in the alpha knows/understands that big changes cant be done in a couple of days/weeks. You better take the time you need and do the right things right

(BomBaKlaK) #150

Hope so ! Maps packs just broke a community in pieces ! aka BF3

(stealth6) #151

I don’t think mappacks are the most unreasonable thing in the world. It’s like giving people a taste of the game and if they like it they can buy more (and keep supporting the devs). What I don’t like about it is that they tend to relase only a handful of maps in total so the game is doomed to fail after a few years due to lack of content.

Plus in the case of BF3 I think the game was meant to have a short lifespan anyway since BF4 was already on the drawing board.

(acQu) #152

The main question i have for the maps: will they have more alternative routes, more side-objectives, more space? Will you design the maps away froom that “tube” principle? (we call it “Schlauchmaps” here)

Imo braking up a map is not that hard. I am sure it can be done in 7 days, and it should be worth it imo. Don’t be scared to break it up. If anything we learned from the waterfall model is that “nothing is final”

(P.S. the waterfall model hides in scrum, i have seen it cogh …)

(RasteRayzeR) #153

it hides in a smaller format in each sprint with a hell of a lot more customer input … hum, not really waterfall anymore

(acQu) #154

Well, in theory, yes. But in practice the static nature of the waterfall model sometimes shines through. Especially with the maps now: even though we give input, some parts of it are not considered changable. It is seen more of a guidline though, even Scrum.

That is also why i think that when Anti says:

We’ve had a lot of feedback about maps recently, we’ve read the threads and we understand what you folks are saying. We’ll see what we can do but it will take time, don’t expect to see anything like considerable changes next patch or even the one after that, but we will keep tweaking based on feedback.

it actually means that there will be a selected part of the feedback implemented, like moving spawns, adding forward spawns, but the maps, in structure, will not be changed. And that imo was the major feedback. That is why i asked again: what exactly is planned? Sorry for being so curious  I just don’t want to have false hopes and be dissappointed once again …

(Kendle) #155

If I were SD I’d be tempted to close the Alpha for a while. Too much of the “feedback” on these forums is treating the game like it’s a finished product and despite protestations to the contrary I don’t think everyone understands that moaning about something 2 weeks ago doesn’t mean the next patch will fix it.

If SD have got so much feedback that they won’t be able to address it all until, say, 3 months from now, then close the Alpha and let us back in 3 months from now when there’s something more for us to test.

(Anti) #156

I doubt there are many game devs in the world that find their community debating software production methodologies on their forum

(RasteRayzeR) #157

Proves we are an exceptional community, well aware of devs constraints, to provide the best feedback possible

(potty200) #158

The last 5 pages haven’t really answered my original post!

Looks like it is because of school/Summer/Exams why people are not playing as much! Thanks though for the feedback so far, keep it coming!

(Protekt1) #159

I am not playing because I am waiting for performance patch… and NA players.
