A recent lack of activity?

(Bangtastic) #41

i was on some lan this weekend so no time^^ btw there is now bf4 alpha trial :S

(potty200) #42

bf4 will have no competitve future. They are too focused on mass selling and draining every last penny out of it’s fans with a thousand map packs and expansions. After the dead awful bf3 I will not be throwing my money at the BF series anymore. The fact they are releasing BF4 less than 2 years after number3 but with a handful of expansions inbetween? Sounds rushed to me! (new COD incoming)
In terms of DB why the lack of activity?..

Well few things that i think a couple of people have picked on already in addition to my own reasons:

 1. Each map pretty much plays the same each time… there’s very limited diversity or alternate roles/things to do that make each game unique.

 2. The maps are way too linear + minimal interaction with the environment - need more rooftops opened up, more offices in buildings, ladders, crates to get to places, use for cover etc.

 3. The extreme lack of captureable spawn points make pub/comp pretty bland - in ETQW the spawn points were where all the fun was at, as it was where you knew where the enemy team was, there was a large risk-reward scenario as you were outnumbered facing a lot of people (i.e more kills in 1 place = more fun for me) but if you captured the spawn it would make a big difference to helping defend/attack… DB just ignores this entire fundamental part of game play and i really think SD have underestimated the importance of capture-able spawn points MASSIVELY for map flow, for teamplay, for gameplay, for strategies and most importantly for player enjoyment.

 4. The game is diversifying becoming more gimmicky but adding “shallow gimmicks” rather than any depth to core mechanics. It’s like DB is trying to put out as many shallow features as possible to satisfy the immediate gamer, with no long term depth, skill ceiling or potential to master any features, so after playing in the alpha for a while, there is no personal progression for me in the game, nothing new to learn/improve at other than aiming, in which the mouse sensitivity feels awful compared to all other FPS games i play so trying to improve aiming here is terrible.

 5. Adding on to number 4 - one i guess no-one has heard before a million times. The Movement System. Enough said.

 6. Pretty much number 5 is a prime example - not much is changing, we spout out the same feedback all day long, SD nods, releases next patch - not in there, we spout out same feedback, SD nods, releases next patch - not in there. Just happens again and again, nothing is moving at the moment in the game. It’s been like a month since the last patch and the MS video’s introducing the next shallow gimmicky features really if anything make me want to appreciate the state of the game when i first joined the alpha in it’s basic state. There’s little activity on the forums as well because everyone has given all the general feedback we can give, but when nothing changes we can’t make up new stuff. If anything we need SD dev’s to start threads specific to an area of the game they want our feedback on, just like the TTK Thread that got started by a dev before.

So yeah essentially there is nothing i can contribute to DB right now by playing until some changes get made, so i just stick to clean fun games that i feel like i can make progression in like ETQW Pro and CS:GO atm.
+1 x 10 characters.

You are correct.

The dip in activity both Potty & I are referring to is only in the last 2 weeks. That’s why I said that.

To Topic:

Need much better performance and more HUD/Crosshair options.
It´s a fast game, i need at least 80 FPS, 100 is ok,120 nice, stable 150-200 on my machine would be perfect.
A free-to-play game should attract players with older machines, too.

I just hate to play a lagging and stuttering game with a cluttered HUD and no proper crosshair.

(meat) #46

Its Summer time, and my playing time is reduced because of it. Work more, have more things to do. I haven’t had time to play in almost 2 weeks. The times I do have available to play I log in and the servers are empty.

(pulley) #47

Ya u are right. But i dont think its a bad think. For me BF3 is a Public only game and it does a great job pleasing me this way

Good post. The HUD is awful. I hope it changes knowing its alpha, but I’d like to point out this is the worst HUD I’ve seen in any fps. I have better huds on fps on my iPad.

(OwNLY) #49

Well, actually i did some minor tweaking…

Hello, I would just like to say that, despite all the issues that have been pointed out in this thread, me and most of my mates actually like very much Dirty Bomb. Of course we haven’t played it a lot, but it looks pretty satisfying for an alpha. Movements are ok (even if sprinting while reloading would be even better), just like the aiming. Of course, as it was said above, maps are quite linear, but if the character class system can bridge the gap of the maps, it could do very well. And the HUD is pretty cool.

In my opinion, all you could do in order to get some people back to the alpha would be to implement some vote options, to kick AFKs and to switch maps at least. I’m sure if we could feel just a little bit more free when we play, it could be way more attractive, because right now we feel like we can’t do anything except playing, having the choice of the map could be great. And then you could see which map are not played much, to focus on them.

(woll3) #51

If it has future or not, EA has thrown a massive amount of money at the Community, that the game was dead after the money rain ended is not our Problem, and since theres a spectator now i guess they are throwing even more money out, so why not go and collect it?

(potty200) #52

Why not collect it? Well, Two capital letters form a company name who don’t really care about the people on the other end of their product. That would be the first reason. Second reason is because BF has been pretty much crap since BF2.

(Patriotqube) #53

hmmm

another thread with the same message, why?

Said it before and willing to repeat myself, if this game had the same feeling as some old SD games i can remember then servers wouldnt be empty

so basically somthing is wrong

but aslong as we dont have a clue where the devs are planing to go, we cant really be helpfull imo

talking about artstuff and how a map is playable at this stage is way to soon imo

some basics needs to be fixed.

well my 2 cents

oh and btw, im pretty busy irl with Work and Family right now so cant find time to play

odly enough i do find time to a game of WET sometimes tho

go figure

(INF3RN0) #54

Samurai pretty much stated the underlying truth of it all. There’s a lot of wide spread complaints/feedback, however I think almost every person who stopped playing regularly or still plays would agree with every word there. It’s hard to understand why the core progression is moving so much slower than the art passes, new content development, etc.

Yes everything needs to be done at once to save time, but the core progression needs a kick and we’re all here to help make it happen whatever it might end up being; ie all the fear that things are going to get cut short because of time restrictions. Repetitive threads reoccur because DB still struggles at a basic level.

(rand0m) #55

I still don’t like bar style for hp, objective timer on my screen why do I need to see a bar for objectives? Just show me map time who cares if we didn’t make the objective in a certain amount of time, serves no purpose to me the map still goes on and to be honest just confuses me to death.

Yeah that’s what SD needs to waste time on in an alpha to waste time coding a feature that isn’t needed at all in an alpha. I really wish these suggestions would go away and start making positive suggestions to fix the core of this game and not adding things such as stated above. Waste of time, the game is a test right now, not a public game where everyone needs to show up and play with who they want and what map they want. Fix the core game. Fix the cord game. Fix the core game.

(BomBaKlaK) #57

agreed ! Some things are more important than others, like core game ! :stuck_out_tongue:

(warbie) #58

There’s just nothing to really get your teeth stuck into. Things are still too cramped and cod-like (with all the randomness and frustration that drives me nuts) and without the freedom and options in movement we had in previous games we lose the dynamism too. There’s no risky quick caps, exciting docs runs, epic clashes at choke points …

(BomBaKlaK) #59

Really miss this to ! lot of mechanics just give some frustrations like plant system, real spawnpoint with quick cap and I dont like the design choice for capturable spawnpoint with this big stuff in the middle, real doc run, not an handicapped race ! (all the carrying obj are broken to me except maybe on camden bit more enjoyable)

LB / WC / Waterloo and CW are just not so fun to play, waterloo is really tiny, London bridge is not really fun, dont like much WC and Canary Warf have only 1 fun objective to do (the 1rst) but not enough side routes and lift is a bit strange. One of the main point is here ! Mechanics need adjustment, and will have some. But look like the maps are kind of definitive and that’s a major issue I think ! I understand it take a lot of time to make one, but please do something !

Maps look like Brink’s maps, boring, linear, not enough side obj, not enough flanking routes, Claustrophobic feeling cause we are always between walls with tiny areas a bit more open sometimes, with not enough possibilities, need more freedom of movement ! need some space ! this is the main issue for me. Don’t have any real WOW effect like it was with WolfET and ETQW … to many things goes wrong in your map design choices. Feel more like a COD or CS GO maps. Like said before, where are the Wolf ET and ETQW levels designers ? For me your only map that I like is camden except the first obj (a bit defense biased I think) the others are funny 1 or 2 times then became boring to play.

Just a little idea, are you intended to make some kind of 32 players map pack ?
can be a really good idea, with more open maps with more side obj, etc … Like you do with 64 player map for WolfET (aka marketgarden)

Good post…minus 32-64 player maps, I doubt the netcode can handle it. It can barely handle the 7vs7.
