A realistic idea to balance Javelin's rocket

The problem with the rocket is that there is no differance between a rocket used by a high skilled player and a rocket used by a low skilled player. Here is my idea to create that differance:

When some other merch prepare their abilities(especially Arty and Kira) they flinch a lot by taking damage. With Arty the screen shakes almost 45 degree angle and it becomes very hard to aim. I think Javelin should flinch as much as Arty and Kira when she takes damage while using the rocket. Also it should take at least 1.5 seconds to prepare the rocket.

Other ideas (like reducing the rocket’s stats or adding flashy lasers and sounds) can’t create a differance between a high skilled player’s rocket and a low skilled player’s rocket, so they would only make the rocket useless.

javelin needs more stuff like laser and sound cue.

all fire support (except stoker) have sound and visual Cue.

I don’t care about damage or arming time (Maybe 1,5 seconds is fine though). All I want is a way to clearly know she is about to shoot it. Anything noticeable, visual or audio and she’ll be fine.
It’s kinda lame that she runs out of amo quite easily when she’s a firesupport. And she can’t destroy the EV.

but her ammo printer doesnt stop giving ammo to teammates even after she was downed.

also, javelin weapons are very efficient, she might not even need it for a long time

Just add a sound cue, that’s literally all she needs

A sound cue is better than a visual effect : you can know when she prepares even when she’s behind a corner + it seems that she loves to yell everytime :slight_smile:

A 1,5 second wind up and a big sound to that. Also when she fires, more distinguisable sound to that and either a laser pointer or just a noticeable laser dot to the spot where she is aiming.

They could tweak the ammo so she maybe gets bit more herself and not so much to others.
Like she passively gains abit more but has to activate the ammo giving for and X amount of seconds.

@DefaultSettings Imo shes fine against EV and secondary objectives. Her killing potential covers it up, and how fast she destroys secondarys.

There’s a bit of an issue. Javelin is trying to fit into two classes a bit atm. If you reduce her damage, it would fix things but would cause her to end up being more like an assualt like Nader like she plays currently. Or you can increase the cool down and charge up time and push her back into the support role.

However she gets changed, it will alter her playstyle imo and that’s not always a good thing. :confused:

Just make the time it takes to equip a bit longer and make her move slower when holding it. I think it should deal more damage to the EV too. Everything else is perfect.

next week or maybe later in september they will try to tone down javelin they already said it on their regular youtube video.

but i bet
-they will rework the way she gives ammo
-make the sound louder when she pre-fire a rocket
-and put some more cooldown on her ability

I actually hope they don’t increase the rocket CD. As a Jav victim I’d rather the rocket be more counterable than somewhat rarer and less counterable. And as a Jav player a longer rocket CD seems unfun. So much of her identity is built around the rocket that a 40 second CD or whatever would make her a lot less fun to me. Even before the latest 10% buff to stokers moly DPS, the patch that lowered the CD made him way more fun to play. 45+ sec CD’s are really only appropriate for abilities with massive teamkill potential. Obviously the rocket can pull triple kills, but more often it’s used to cheese a single player or two. A ‘Gaurenteed’ kill or double kill every 45 seconds is less fun for everyone than a chance to pull a kill or double kill every 30. Rewards are only addicting if they are somewhat inconsistent. Would much rather have a rocket that is harder to execute but regularly available. Longer charge time, easier to shoot down, and louder charge sound as you said.

For the same reason I think Javelin with recharge is both less frustrating to play against AND more fun to play with than Jav with explosion radius. Part of the less frustrating part is that you always have to assume the Jav has her rocket up anyway, so a 45 second CD wouldn’t much change the fact that you have to run away whenever you see her above you. Ironically, knowing that the rocket is on a longer CD but having to run away from it anyway because you aren’t sure if it’s off CD is even more frustrating.

Also, although this verges on spam, I really hope they nerf her health to 110 so she has a clear weakness relative to other fire supports. Even a nerfed rocket is going to be a better merc killer than arty or moly. I like the model of a slightly fragile fire support with an unusually dangerous ability. Would also make it easier to kill her before her rocket goes off, which I think should be the #1 objective of her inevitable nerfs. Whipping out the rocket launcher to turn a gun fight should not be a thing.

you got a real point on the cd and lower her health.
I am a real fan of jav too hope they will not dig her to the grave with the comming nerf

that seemed kind of obtuse after they went through all the trouble to remove it from fragger and the snipers…
