A quick question of strafing speed whilst firing?

I can only speak for myself and a few friends who have had bad experiences with this in the past but we feel that sideways movement is too fast when firing.

When I say this it means we’ve looked at it from both sides. Four of us equipped various mercs who all had different weapons and played two days of either trying to kill others when WE are moving sideways for trying to kill another person when THEY are moving sideways. In both cases we felt that some mercs, especially the ones with SMGs can strafe far too quickly and the unpredictable direction change makes for a near guaranteed win in these situations, so much to the point that were were getting kill streaks of 15 and upwards whilst being in very open situations. And while that performance was great it made the rounds seem very unfair and we didn’t want to continue playing like that.

But quickly before you answer please make sure you understand that me and my friends KNOW how dodging bullets and rapid movement are a key part of the game, I feel it is completely fair for one player to sprint toward another player whilst dodging fire and killing them in anyway they see fit. What I am talking about here is the playstyle which is bringing characters like Aura and Sawbonez into very close situations and moving sideways in an unpredictable manner to prevent an enemy player from getting a fair chance.

A side note on the poll, not necessary to read
I took to the Steam forums for Dirty Bimb to ask for an opinion on this matter as it was a place that was easy to access but it was met to a lot of negative comments aimed more as abuse toward us and had nothing to do with gameplay at all. A quick look in the rest of the discussions showed me that everyone on there can be personified as a screaming 12 yr old child. So after a quick look at the official forums for the game I decided to ask here hoping for some more civilized answers, in fact one comment told me to prepare to get **** on. So please keep the discussion to the point.

Speed and HP are balanced against each other. The lighter mercs that have lower HP move faster. It’s part of the balance. Speed is supposed to offset the lack of HP and give the lighter mercs a chance.

And if you aren’t able to hit a low HP merc who is strafing then you guys simply need either a viewpoint adjustment as to what the core of DB is (extremely fast paced game more in line with Q3 than CS) or simply more experience. It’s pretty well known that at the higher end of the competitive spectrum that the lighter mercs tend to be less favored in many situations simply because a player with solid aim will still easily hit them which negates the speed advantage. Making the lighter mercs sometimes be a bigger risk to use. There are other factors but speed being negated is definitely a big one.

Are you wanting every merc to have the same speed or slow down the faster mercs? Or? Your post doesn’t really include this information.

I’m quite happy I think overall to movement speed when I am and am not shooting.
The game has a really great feel which I hope they keep.

It’s fine as is.

I’m not sure if by strafing you mean actually strafing in one direction or the constant left and right alternating strafe that people do. In the first case I think it’s fine, but in the second case I think that the issue lies in the difference between what is played and what is seen by others.
I mean that what the server shows is definitely an approximation on what the player is actually doing. And I see aura’s doing left and rights so quickly that even if I just aim at the middle the server is going to assume I missed all bullets. That is the only point in which strafing should be fixed, but I guess that has more to do with netcode.

Strafing while firing is what makes this game have really good gun fighting. So it’s good as is.

You have to practice hitting strafing players and picking their rhythm or you will always be average. Once you pick someones rhythm it’s like an “aha!” moment and you will do much better against them.

@Lumi: It also has an awful lot to do with FPS. Low fps makes hitting swerving targets much, much harder. Nothing can really be done about that.

It’s like Lumi said, the servers can’t always keep up with the ADAD strafe spam, and it sometimes results in player models more or less “warping” on your end.
I don’t have other issues with strafing.

I gotta say, great dedication.

An excellent english, it makes my eyes happy to see proper english. My only problem? Dirty Bimb. That sounds like a number of things…

But yea, it’s relatively balanced. A Sparks is definitely an easy kill, unless of course they know what they’re doing. Auras are definitely quite deadly, but regardless, keeping distance and using explosives usually works.

So are my 120fps too low or too high?

I think that maybe a few players do abuse macros. At least for fletcher’s sticky bombs, there are some players using them just like high dps shotgun shells by throwing them and almost immediately exploding them, kinda like horizontal flak fire.
Maybe, some people have a very neatly timed macro for the frame perfect ADAD spam. Maybe a counter in that area should be implemented. They had already talked about an exploit that they previously fixed, I’m not sure if it was that.

Aren’t you the guy who’s been spamming the various fake " is over-powered" topics in the steam forums since yesterday…

(SereneFlight) #13

Nope. All those topics were from different people.

Ahahahah. False.
