A question (for developers?) about LAN in Xbox360 for Brink.

(Dagger1979) #1

Hey guys,

I have two Xbox and two TVs in my living room. Both Xbox are connected to the router. I usually play with my girfriend to COD Black Ops, the only game we play together (past years we played MW1 and 2). Sometimes we can´t join together in the same party, so one of us gets into a game, and the other one tries to join when there is a free spot.

So, the question is: Have you improved the LAN connection for parties? I really think this game is going to make us forget about COD (we LOVE real teamwork in FPS), but I want to be sure that the game works properly before I preorder two copies.

And, I have to tell you off, guys, for not putting some female characters in the game. My gf is a fan of you since Wolfenstein: ET, same as me, and she is a bit upset about this. I hope you will add this on a DLC or something.

Sorry for my English. I’m from Spain, by the way.

Cheers!

Can’t really say much until it’s released to the public and we see how well their net coding is. If you’re really insecure about connection it just wait a day or two and see if there are any complaints on it. If you don’t find any or much then your good.

There are a couple long threads explaining the choice to omit female characters here so those may give an idea why that choice was made.

There is no real info on how the XBL party system will integrate yet but they do have a fireteam system that is supposed to allow people to get on the same team easier, even with randoms if you pair up, so that should help at least part of the issue. At least in Brink you can start a game, invite her into your game and make it co-op and join a fireteam, then make it a public match and let it fill up all without quitting and going back to lobbies and such. That way you will be on the same team and the fireteam will put you on the same side in matches after it.

Were there female characters in W:ET?

“…And, I have to tell you off, guys, for not putting some female characters in the game. My gf is a fan of you since Wolfenstein: ET, same as me, and she is a bit upset about this. I hope you will add this on a DLC or something…”

You aren’t the first to complain about this
But why?
Wolfenstein:ET didn’t have any female models. Really, what is the big deal about female models not being there? Would your friend prefer playing as an over-sexualized, objectified caricature of the female gender meant to pander to adolescent males?

{whydmer starts to raise his hand and then realizes people are watching… and he quickly puts it down}

I was wondering, if I start a game on the xbox 360, and then make it public, will I always remain the peer to peer host for that session?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I know Wolfenstein: ET did not have female characters, but there are two differences here:

-WWII did not have many females involved, at least not in the armies.
-That game wasn’t sold as the panacea of character customization, like Brink.

Brink is about a revolution, and females take part in revolutions. You just have to look at the news these days, with the revolts in north Africa and Middle East.

I know it’s just a game where the plot is an excuse for some good action, but, if you talk about revolution, and total character customization, it seems a good idea to take women into account. Just my opinion.

-WWII did not have many females involved, at least not in the armies.
Revolutions in the contemporary world don’t have females involved, at least not in the combat.

-That game wasn’t sold as the panacea of character customization, like Brink.
You can never have enough customization options to satisfy everybody. There were people who were miffed at not having a heavy build for the females in APB.
Customization in Brink isn’t limited to physical appearance either, there is more to it.

Adding female models would have hogged more resources and time. If Brink had just female models, I would have opposed the addition of male player models as well.

Lyudmila Pavlichenko: 309 confirmed kills. 36 of whom were enemy snipers.

(Not arguing, just wanted to recognize.)

(LyndonL) #10

Pfft, snipers. Only 309 kills over a year. Typical wookie. Good K/D ratio, but low score per minute.

yep, another freakin’ camper

Women generally can outscore dudes with firearms. It’s not that far fetched. Look at the smith & wesson shooters competitions. Top scorers are always ladies. Exception is the shotgun trials everywhere but skeet shooting in which women dominate in the top brackets.

It seems that originally there were female characters planned for W:ET.

(Dagger1979) #14

The last two posts are surprising. ^^

I guess the female audience is not too important for the industry still. Except for Cooking Mama and Wii Fit… Bad thing.

Anyways, I’m more worried about the LAN thing. I hope it will work perfectly.

(LyndonL) #15

What!?!? Brink doesn’t have females?! Since when?! SD I demand females or else I’m boycotting buying this game!!!

(JeP) #16

And you won’t write dozen of pages to express your frustration accepting no opinion but your own ? Come on !

LOL Nope, it’s alright. My LORD OF THE HEAVENS, CHRIST OF ALL BEINGS, will take my revenge. A-MEN, brothers. A- MEN.
