A question about turrets

(Commander_Keen) #1

I don’t think this is documented anywhere but I just wanted to ask your opinions.

The turrets in game for the Engineer class all the docs talk about “power” and the wiki I link to in my signature also tries to compare each to the power of weapon classes, light turret = SMG, medium turret = Assault and stuff like that. I was having a discussion in game and some one asked me why I was a level 24 but still used medium turrets not Gatling turret?

My perception of it has been that the Gatling has a higher cyclic rate but seems to have a shorter range than the single barrel slower medium turret. Has anyone seen any documentation in game or on the net that speaks to the range of the turrets? If not feel free to give your perceptions of what you think of the turrets in regards to projectile range please.

same range just more damge. all turrets have unlimited range. gattling also shoots x3 in a shotgun formation methinks, so you have a higher chance of hitting the target

all turrets have unlimited range

No… there definitely is a range where turrets fail to detect people.

taht is a myth. if directy in front of a turret it has unlimited range but it cannot see people under it worse and increasing ranges(makes sense)

for example

within 5 meters it will detect people within 45 degrees up or down but after 300 or so more it might only detect people 1 degree up or down

Dude, I thought you were gone?

I think people with Silent Running ability may be harder for it to detect because I have seen people walking around 6 inches off of the barrel and it doesn’t open up on them. There has to be some logical explanation for it, I’m curious. Good point bringing up the sensor range but I was originally asking about projectile range.

Range is hardly something you can determine with the finicky turrets.
The only difference, as far as I could tell, were RoF. All appear to deal the same damage.

I use a Medium on mine, but he’s triple-specc’d so I had to be choosey with my skills.

The detection range has a minimum (about 2m) and maximum range (say 30-40m?).

But once it has locked on, you have to break the line of sight. Though I never tried running away to get more distance…
