A question about color and text

(Shinjorai) #1

This may be an odd thing but i was just curious, as far as character customization what all colors are included in the color pallete, has anybody heard anything about this? I really hope they add a bunch of shades of each color, and also i hope in the text supported by the game they allow ascii type characters, such as " §" It’s not a big deal but would be good for clan tag customization etc.

The question about color is because my favorite color is purple and I remember in quakewars there was only two shades of purple and they both kidve ended up looking pink. Like i said its an odd question but just curious. I know nobody probably knows until the game releases.

As somebody from a shooter background and roleplaying background (both mmo and singleplayer) I think the customization in the game is one of the big things thats going to keep me glued to it for years to come hopefully.

Anyways thanks ahead of time for any input and thoughts on this.

The character customization has set textures/colors for each archetype. SD decided that they would prefer a large but finite number of high quality costumes rather than truely customizible but bad looking costumes.

Its said that there are enough of these different textures that each player will be psudo-unique though.

Also, its worth pointing out that each side is someone limited in their palettes. Resistance are mostly warm colors, security is mostly cool colors.

That makes sense i guess and actually is pretty ingenius in distinguishing the sides from each other, that was one of my initial worries with the game was telling the two factions apart with so many vairants possible costume wise.

There is also something that SD has dubbed “rim lighting”

it came with mixed reviews both here and the Bethesda forums. Some people downright hate it

Basically, people are illuminated around the edges to tell friend from foe. As they get closer, the rim lighting fades and eventually disappears, because you can tell factions by costume once they are close enough.

The fade distance is tuned differently for each map, to compensate for differences in the maps, such as lighting.

I wonder how much of that will have options server side, i remember in quakewars the game shipped with red arrows above enemies heads but eventually you could turn it off if u didnt want that, which most servers i remember playing on chose that option. As long as its a selectable option i think its great but being forced to use it, yeah i could see people hating it. Im not really sure where i stand on that because i havent seen it in any videos ive watched as of yet. I did see the health bars above enemies heads and assumed thats how u told one team from the next.

But sadly for you, I don’t recall purple as being part of the main color schemes. Resistance are mostly orange and green, and security are dark blue and yellow… But there is obviously other colour choices if you look at the customizations videos and reference on Brink’s main page.

i would be surprised if there weren’t some purple-ish colors within security
