A proposed change to the scoreboard.

This is something that I wanted to bring up for a little bit. When playing this game I notice that the scores are mainly driven off of team performance and playing for the scenario or objective. I think that given the way that this game plays the scoreboard would be better if it was constructed with just the player score for when you are in the match instead of showing the kill to death ratio’s along with assists.

The reason why I bring this up is that the game is a team game right, so in a team environment there may be players that don’t have the best k/d ratio but have lots of points because of their help to the team. Now if you are a new player and you come in getting rocked and you see people just completely rolling over you with ratios like 40-4 then you might feel quite disheartened about it. But when you just show a score and player class the player will strive to do what gets them more points (in this case playing to help the team). With the current setup I feel that it drives for a death match mentality and I notice a lot of players going for kills instead of helping the players around them.

Now I do think that the place that kills and deaths may have a place is at the end of the round offering the players to see an advanced scoreboard containing things like kills, deaths and assists.

The main focus of all of this is not scaring off the new players. With just the scores coming up the players will get the hang of playing for the team and they will see their labor reflected in their score. It will also get rid of the COD mentality that your worth is connected with your kills.

In summation I think it would be worth the time to remake the scoreboard to display the players score, ping and class that they are currently playing. And at the end of the round there should be an advanced board option that contains all the other details for the players. I think this would drive a team mentality and in a stop watch fashion the teamwork is very very important.

I like this idea. This should really help the new players take to the game. Not only does SD need the community as big as possible to make money, but it will also make the game/environment better for everyone involved.

Sometimes this helps players gain valuable information about their teammates. If there was someone on my team getting a ton of kills, then I would ensure I kept them alive or followed them around. The same goes for score info, as I would try to follow the top scoring medic/fops around because I would know I could expect to receive support right away since they get their main xp from resupplying other team members. Just my thoughts there.

Good point inferno, I would imagine you are relating this in a pub style format. But does that outweigh potentially losing players due to them getting retired after going 0-40.

We’ve been lightly discussing a potential match making system to help prevent anyone from ever going 0-40. Before I give those details however, the game is designed in a way that rewards player action so that even if your 0-40 and doing something important for the team, you will still have a high score to prove your worth. Sometimes doing badly is a rude awakening for self-improvement and there’s not always much that can be done. That said- I believe SD wants to eventually implement a system which will effectively offer matchmaking for players of similar skill levels to prevent discouragement and also promote improvement. Imagine something like LoL… this is just a raw example from me but I could see something like this working;

-free-join server list for clan servers (standard system)
-normal match making (solo/multi-que)
-ranked ladder que (solo/multi-que)
-normal clan match making
-ranked clan ladder

Some things like this would help offer some convenient stepping stones for new players, as well as adding a huge amount of content for longevity. Just some alternative solutions to the problem your proposing.
