DirectX is the name for the family of Microsoft application programming interfaces (APIs) used primarily for programming video and audio functions in software designed for Microsoft environments (such as Windows operating systems and the Xbox 360).
In the case of Brink, OpenGL is used for the graphics side and DirectX is used for the audio side. The game automatically installs the latest version of DirectX the first time you run it. In other words you probably won’t see any benefit from installing DirectX again and it wouldn’t help ATI/AMD cards any more than Nvidia cards.
