A merc with the portal gun!

The portal gun could totally work in this game! The only game-breaking aspect about Valve’s original is it’s infinite range. However, if the range was shortened to say, shotgun effect, then the whole thing would be like a fast-paced back and forth TF2 teleporter! Pair it with a meaningful cooldown and you’ve got yourself an incredible merc.

I think a UT styled translocator would make much more sense then a portal gun.

You need to think about the performance impact of such a device and the lack of BSP surfaces in Dirty Bomb.
Also it would be far to exploitable (even though very fun) to use abilities though it.

Sure. As long as it’s an ability that the entire team can benefit. And yes! Chucking airstrike beacons and sensors and turrets and all other shebang through the portal would be awesome. I’d call it synergistic team cooperation

And the graphics can be a later concern. If it’s some ugly red an blue cloud thing hovering just away from the surface you shoot it at then that’s good enough for testing.

Portal gun would be such a c**t on the defense. Bad enough getting back doored when attacking. Last thing you would want is to be even easier.

I’m sure you could add some ‘portal surface’ clip brushes to mark areas as portalable (that IS a word). Would suit a recon class and could be a modern alternative to teamdoor uni stealing. I mentioned a short-distance blink merc a long while ago - http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/36050-NEW-Tools-gadgets-and-abilities-suggestions-thread?p=446694&viewfull=1#post446694
