a lovely beginners question (ladders and adding textures)

(RAV3N) #1

hey pretty simple question really (and i hope its a simple answer) i was using a tuturial to make a ladder and it showed the person adding a no draw texture to a brush then adding the ladder texture but i was just wondering how u add a texture to only one side of the brush? and if its not a case of adding it to only one side how is it done?

thanx in advance for any help given

Shift + โ€œsโ€ selects only one face of a brush.

shift and s brings up patch properties

i use ctrl + alt + shift + left click, thatโ€™s if you want to select individual faces of multiple brushes.

Watch out with the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT !!! If you have a brush already selected and CRTL-ALT-SHIFT you will change the textures to the OTHER brush too. The selection is Inclusive. My suggestion is start the selection with CTRL-SHIFT and then use the CTRL-ALT-SHIFT to add more faces.

On the select surface issue: I always hit Esc a couple of times before I select a face. (I use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Left mouse click.) That way I know only the right surface will be selected.
I do the same when I want to select a brush. (Esc.)
Nooo, mapping has made me a CEH! (Itโ€™s the compulsive esc-hitter syndrome).
