A lot concerned about this

In the Meantime…

Until these updates roll out, here’s what you can do to improve your multiplayer experience if you encounter problems:

Check your opponent’s network connection / ping:
One player with very low bandwidth connections can have a negative impact on the overall network performance of the game for the team.
You are able to view other player’s connection quality easily by viewing the scoreboard and determining if this is the likely cause of lag.
To view other player’s connection quality, press Start during a match and select the Scoreboard option to display all other players
Other human player bandwidth values are shown on the right hand side of their name as a traffic light value. Anyone that is showing orange or red means they have a bad connection and could potentially be causing the match to become disrupted…

Note: You can also view the opposing team scoreboard since the problem may be with a player on the opposite team. To do this press R1 for PS3 or RB for XBOX 360 while on the scoreboard

Should you see more players showing RED than GREEN on their status, you should exit this game, return to the main menu and join another game on a new connection.
The matchmaking system will place you in a more suitable game

So, if I understand correctly; if one players lags, everyone else with a proper connection may also lag.

If that’s correct, that’s one of the most ridiculous networking method used in a competitive and online FPS game. I don’t even get how that method could sound like a good idea… it just doesn’t make sense, especially when Brink on console doesn’t even feature a Server (host) Browser, so you may get matched with laggy players coming from all around the world all the time.

I sincerely hope that the console version of Brink will get a patch that would add a server browser. Otherwise, Brink may just die in a matter of weeks.

Next week you will get:

Xbox 360

We’ve been hard at work investigating the lag issues some players of the Xbox 360 version of Brink have reported. We’ve now completed modifications to improve network performance and will be rolling these out in a title update for the game.

your quote is for the meantime.

It isnt that everyone lags it is that that one person may end up causing weirdness inside the game world. You watch a guy and he has a higher than normal ping, while watching him he may teleport or skip across the level, he may end up firing one bullet at you and you get killed when on his machine he emptied a clip, And so on. This has been the case with any online game, even though some games utilize different network code or implement it differently, there has always, and more than likely will always be an issue with allowing high ping players onto a server.

Some games have done a pretty good job at smoothing out the net code, but none are perfect.

Lots of games have it where if one person lags, everyone lags.

I bet each time you enter an unplayable match in Brink its due to one other person.

Dawn of War II was horrible, if one person lagged the match was unplayable.

How were the other idtech4 games on the console network wise (Quake 4, ETQW), anyone remember?

I believe Black Ops has this beat. If your connection was good in that game you suffered. If it sucked you were rewarded. Hows that work??

(thedukey) #7

dont play on console, why do you think people like dedicated servers for PC?

(Ainokeato) #8

It’s not like Dedicated Servers don’t lag.

Yeah I hate dedicated servers, a lot of players have crappy connections.
The experience is often better on a good host.
