how do you create a mod for ET.

It depends on what you want to do.
You can do maps (which I also count as mod-ification of the original game), graphic-modifications (change textures and skins), sound-modifications, playermodel-modifications (change the appearence of the players) or gameplay-modifications.
A combination of the above modifications is called total conversion.

For every category you need specific programs and skills.
If you want to do gameplay-modifiations you must have programming skills in the programming language “C”.

hmmm i think i have to learn the progam language but i am a good modeller

buy a book over c and c++ programming, probally a book for visual studio, because et was programmed in this enviroment

As far as I remember there are several online C-programming tutorials mentioned here in the forums.
Not sure if this thread is sticky.
