A li'l bit of fun

I recently got into Half-Life 2 (who hasn’t? Sheesh) and more specifically, Garry’s Mod. Pretty much, it’s a mod that allowed you to spawn and throw around, and then put together and blast around some more anything you want.

But that’s not the point. I got this idea from reading their forums, and decided: “Hell, why not for ET?” So let’s do this.

The idea of this is to make the most longest contraption you can that in the end, does nothing but the most mundane task. Think of a long domino effect of random objects doing random things to eachother to move it further along, just to lift a flag.

The author of these sort of contraptions has named it, for some reason, “Goldbergs”.

So lets see how long all of your mappers can waste your time for just a simple task. Good luck!

So you kinda want to see something like the original willy wonka’s taffy press ?
500 mechanisms to make 1 small piece of the ole’ chew a bit taffy.

NO way ! :stuck_out_tongue: Well, maybe sometime if I get really really bored AND I am drinking a gallon of espresso. :stuck_out_tongue:

P.S. I got out of HL2 as fast as I got into it…I killed the same idiot AI guy 5000 times before another idiot AI guy showed up 5000 times. Very bland in gameplay(I think)…almost like another TECH DEMO. -Plus I watched the developer log from time to time as I played…error after error and missing thing after missing thing. ugh. Just my opinion though. :stuck_out_tongue:

do you not think this would take foever in ET since all movenmet would have to be scripted

EDIT// i supose you could perhaps do somehting like a tank runs over a mine and blows a func_explosive …

I think the fact of it’s uselessness goes into the territory of it being extremely ‘obscene’ in it’s own manner. Almost like taking a tree through a lumber-mill and running it through 500 processes just to get 1 toothpick.
hehehehe…I was just reminded of an old Bugs Bunny cartoon.

(psychosanity) #5

Reminds me of the old board game “mousetrap”, anybody remember that?

(EB) #6

yeah, or even the front yard in the beginning of the movie “Goonies”. That mechanism took 3 minutes for what they could’ve done in 3 seconds…but Chunks’ “Truffle Shuffle” dance made the scene all worth while ! :fiesta:

P.S. - Gaud, I love that movie

[edit]

So ? :moo:[/edit]

been playing a bit with this and come to the conclusion that you cant create anything overly impresive without scripting it but then its just not the same as the hl2 ragdol goldbergs

EB u got issues

Storm was a similar cartoonist:

drawing these funny machines.
I think most scandinavians who are interested in cartoons know about him in the first place rather than Goldberg.
I wish I has more freetime, I’d jump this project right away.
Must finish my other project
