A few questions about ECHO

(.FROST.) #1

#1, Have you also used Echo for your other new titles, like RAD Soldiers and the MP part of Arkham Origins?

#2, If not, would it at least have been possible, and will you use it in your future games?

#3, Is it possible, or have you even planned to sell this tool to other developers, or even to people outside of the gaming industry; like say for example, to guys that are studying street-traffic, or are planning emergency exits in stadiums and stuff like that?*

*(I know, the last example was a bit very specific, but you get what I mean:))

(Anti) #2

We’ve use it a little in RAD Soldiers and in Arkham, but Extraction is the main title making use of it as well as the one driving the functionality we add. We’ll definitely use it in our future games.

Other companies/developers could use it and I believe Fireteam would look to sell it on, best to visit their website to get a better idea of that: http://fireteam.net/

(Mustang) #3

Free license for indies.

(S0und_) #4

nothing is free

(Protekt1) #5

What is the difference between echo and UE3 stat tracking? Better charts and stuff?

(Raviolay) #6

SD could do it like UE3 deal where by you can use it for free until you surpass a certain amount of sales.

(.Chris.) #7

Don’t a lot studios, albeit larger ones, already have their own version of this anyway? Not to piss on anyone’s strawberries or anything but Echo isn’t exactly a new idea from what I gather.

(Protekt1) #8

Precisely. I am pretty sure something comes with UE3 right off the bat. Maybe not as good or with as good visuals.

(Anti) #9

A lot of publishers have similar services but most independent providers were bought up in recent years so there is very little out there for smaller devs and publishers, especially not as powerful and flexible as Echo.

(Protekt1) #10

Can Echo be used for engines other than UE3?

(malarky) #11

Yup. it’s engine agnostic.

(Seanza) #12

Seems to be the new buzzword of Splash Damage

(RasteRayzeR) #13

Does it work with Unity ? Many small studios and indies devs. use it (like me for instance :D).

(.FROST.) #14

I could imagine something like ECHO isn’t directly connected to another software and would need either manual input, or, for automated data input, something like another small tool, that would make the data output, from a specific source readable for ECHO. With other words; you’d allways need a secondary tool/program, that’d translate data from a source-software into ECHO’s language. That would, on the one hand, make ECHO completely “agnostic”, but would also, on the other hand, allways require such a secondary translation tool. That’s only my thinking though. Does it kinda work this way, or rather not?

(Smooth) #15

Well it works for RAD Soldiers

(RasteRayzeR) #16

Sometimes I just don’t make the connections in my brain xD

It always means the same thing… independent of one another.

(Kl3ppy) #19

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Seanza again.

Every time I read echo here, I have to think about this:
