A fast and very consistent way to grind XP in Brink [video]

Hope you find it useful :]

Thoughts? Do you have a better method? Or do you just dislike the idea of grinding and would rather play online?

(DarkangelUK) #3

Play the game and enjoy it, and you’ll rack up the XP without even realizing it… and even maybe have fun in the process. That’s the best method I can think of.

This is horrible. The fact you gain xp for healing someone you damaged is bad enough* and a glaring oversight. The fact that you are encouraged to sabotage your entire team is much worse.

Does it work with the robot, boat, and so on ?

  • “but b0rsuk, if you get no xp for healing a teammate you hurt by accident, medics won’t be healing them !”
This is how it could be handled: if medic wounds a teammate, he loses XP immediately. If he heals a teammate, he gains as much XP. That way, medics are still encouraged to heal teammates and are discouraged from friendly fire and leaving the wounded teammates hurt.

Just for the record, I don’t like grinding at all! I much prefer to play the game online against some real competition.

However, after looking at different methods that people use and playing around with a few ideas, I came across this. I really enjoy making video guides and I was certain that some gamers would find it useful.

We always figured those so inclined would find stuff like this, and we’re not really that fussed if they do it in private… and the vote kick system is there for those that do it in public.

I think XP should be transferable to new characters.

Playing through a game the first time and unlocking everything slowly is fine as you’re learning as you go, and with each unlock you receive a period of time to focus on it and get used to how it works. Consider it a kind of step by step tutorial.

However, making a new character and having to do it all again is simply a pain in the arse.

If you play the game correctly, you can earn several levels a game. I hit level 20 in less than a week, and only I played maybe twohours a day. And I lost more than I won. And I played soldier, who doesn’t earn XP very fast at all compared to engineers or medics.

I made a new character a few days ago, and went medic. I frequently earn two levels a match. If I have a good team and we are working well together, I can earn three levels a game.

Because there is a level cap (Sad!) this is a great way to build another character.

i would love to see the level cap completely lifted.
i just want to use one character. i only like a few physical characteristics of the visual style and i can change body types before a game begins.

i don’t have time to build another character [because of the level cap :frowning: ] so i am limited to my play style.

The irony is that all thos CoD n00bs will find out about this, level up a few characters and then go back to crying about how they can only get to level 20.

Puts the ‘gr’ in grind. But thinking about it, probably better that people who just want to grind xp (rather than play the game) do it solo rather than on a pub server.

While this method doesn’t affect anyone else, it does point out that on FF enabled servers you don’t lose XP for damaging your escort objective but for damaging friendlies you do.

(InfiniteStates) #15

What a waste of time. Just play the game.

(Kalbuth) #16

Faster character re-build when you lose yours over a bug, why not

(StillBatusBrad) #17

This ^^^^ Grinding is for zeros who lack the commitment to simply play the game as designed, the sort of people who exploit glitches when they find them, like COD’s smoke-grenade-sprinters.

This particular example is especially…distatseful.

(Sinner) #18

I think this is great. It looks boring as hell, and I certainly wouldn’t have the patience for it, but the fact that you can do it without inconveniencing other players is amazing. And I’m glad to see the devs feel the same way.

I mean if someone wants to sit in a game by themselves and do whatever, who are we to say “No, you’re doing it wrong, shame on you.” What if someone wants to run around an empty map and look for shortcuts? Or they want to test out how different weapons and attachments affect accuracy? Would you tell them to “play the game as it was designed” and do it during a real match?

(tokamak) #19

Yeah or you just let the xp penalty regarding damaging bots and VIP’s accumulate each time it happens. This is a clear example of a perverse incentive.

(Kalbuth) #20

Why did it bother you so much that people may be doing this, guys? Is this affecting your game in any way? oO
