A demo for brink ?

(Auzner) #101

Now I have evidence that my posts actually get read. A lot of my posts are multi-paragraph so I’ve had my doubts.

I think (!) are the official sarcasm symbols to use. This joke has been done a lot, but it’s also a new thread once a week. It’s hard to tell. I guess it’s more of an indicator of your renown.

That’s how it’s supposed to be done. “Who are you? You can’t participate! You first have to go ‘hay guyz im new here’ and then create several mundane threads.”

Funnily enough, your argument with .Chris. is probably the first time I haven’t read your posts. (I skipped the entire argument, but I do intend to go back and read it this weekend.) Enough with the self-doubts, bud.

It’s more accepted than other proposed marks, but I find “[/sarcasm]” to be the most effective. Also, I’m pretty sure that some guy trademarked a new punctuation mark for sarcasm in the past few years, but wanted to charge people to use it, so everyone ignored him. Thought that would have been in the Wikipedia article…

So to the original topic here of a demo release, it if mostly acepted that we will not get one.
Now the question is if you were waiting for a demo to help you decide to play brink or not I guess you might have to settle with posting your heart out until your mind is made up.
So for all those on the fence, what are your concerns regarding wether or not you go with brink?

once you go brink, … well I hope thats what it’s like.

(weeschwee) #106

i’m one of those people on the fence. i would have pre-ordered by now through d2d to get those deals i keep hearing about, but lately games keep falling short. and it’s hard to pay full price or close to full price for a game when it will be $5 on steam’s new years sale. it also doesn’t help that battlefield 3 is coming out later this year.

i think it is fair to say this is the mentality of a good portion of steam users. some people love gaming, but just don’t have the money to blow on risks. sadly, nearly every game is a risk nowadays will all the corners being cut.

(dandragon) #107

I see your point and it’s a good one. I haven’t worked a steady job in years and have become the stay at home parent, so I only get one or 2 games a year. Battlefield 3 is coming soon, but this isn’t the same kind of shooter. Brink brings enough new to the table that it’s worth the buy to me, and as far as quality just look at SD’s reputation. The games they have worked on are still talked about and played nearly 10 years later and to be honest many of the games out now won’t be widely played in 10 years.

(weeschwee) #108

brink definitely brings enough to the table to be considered worth buying. the only problem is that most games sound good in theory. most games look amazing in trailers. all developers hail their game as great. it’s hard to know which games are actually good and make due on their promises without being able to play the game.

demo please!

Being an experienced gamer I see through hype pretty well. I knew Homefront would be worthless and unpopular. I knew Crysis 2 would not offer anything new. I knew Bulletstorm would have a really weak story, didn’t expect good characters though. I knew SC2 would fade away and be left as a niche, but I got it anyways. All it takes is reading about the games and knowing the developer’s history. If it sounds like more of the same in an overdone genre then it probably won’t go anywhere. There’s absolutely nothing new about Homefront and it offered a mere 5 hour single player.

(Spanky123) #110

I hope so because I cant wait for this game to come out.

true with experience can come wisdom and foresight. But I think it would be intresting if there was at least one good person or team allowed to do full non spoiler reviews at least a week or 2 before release. The closest thing now is to follow shows like xplay, and read some reviews online.
plus for brink just look at all the critic praise from past events like E3. Makes me wonder if quakecon could be brinkon?

@auzner: right, interested parties want to know your crystal ball on diablo and dungeon siege 3. hindsight is 20/20
