A couple screenshots of insane FPS changes over nothing..

(thedukey) #1

here are two screenshots, the first is me getting 220ish fps… the next is it dropping down to 110fps over nothing major. maybe this will help narrow down the performance issues for SD? please view in full size and look to the top left for the FPS counter. also notice my GPU usage is insanely high for no reason.

thanks!

forgot to post system specs just in case:

i7 920 @ 3.6ghz
6gigs 1600mhz ram
AMD/ATI Radeon 5870 2GB (i know another 5870 - soon to be a gtx 580 tomorrow)

<—doesn’t know why Brink runs so slow (fps wise)

(thedukey) #3

its insane how just the menu overlapping, with only 1 server (mine since its the fav browser), shows up. there is something major wrong here… hope it gets fixed soon!

So just because all of a sudden update and render takes 6 ms longer, the game has serious problems. What’s next? Comparing it to another menu from another game where processing takes about 1ms?

(thedukey) #5

im sorry what? you lost me… please explain since im obviously an idiot.

Have you by chance an antivirus program? If so, could you put the brink as part of the antivirus program’s exclusion list to see if things improve or not?

Here ya go: Delete the “history” section of “\Steam\userdata######\7\remote\serverbrowser_his t.vdf”
The ####### being your steamid. This instantly fixed the issue for me. Hope it will do the same for you.

You say fps, developers think in milliseconds it takes the game to render a frame.
So for 30 fps, you get 1000 milliseconds / 30 frames = 33 milliseconds to update the game logic and render a frame.

Your sudden ‘major’ drop of fps from 220 fps (4 milliseconds) to 110 (9 milliseconds) is just an increase of 5 milliseconds of processing time per frame.

Anyways, you’re complaining of a drop in fps in menus, when your lower limit (110 is way too fast anyway)
