A couple of really quick questions

(Grand_Mister_P) #1

Firstly, i created an easygen terrain, where does the .pcx need to go in my pk3?

Second, a custom texture im using (thanks for the heads up Ifurita) doesnt show up in game. Well, it does in mine, but not in a friends whoose using the pk3 i made. I put it in a “textures” folder all on its own, does it need to then go in a subfolder of my map name also? Or does it need to be mentioned somewhere so ET knows its there or what? Bear in mind its not just for my machine, itll be for my friends when i issue them the finished pk3. (finished heh)

Cheers

ifurita has written a tutorial about making pk3’s:
http://planetwolfenstein.com/4newbies/pakscape.htm

The pcx has to be in no sub-directory.
If you would unzip the pk3 (that has to be in the etmain directory) it would be in etmain.

The custom textures you use should be in a directory “textures/mapname/” (or something similar including you name / nickname).
And so you have to zip this directory / subdirectory in your pk3.

Directory tree within thepk3:

TERRAIN.pcx
textures/MAPNAME/CUSTOM_TEXTURE.tga

the pcx should not be included in the pk3 at all because it’s not used by the game…it’s only used by the compiler

Hmmm, thats what i thought, but it didnt work in my compiler! I sent a pk3 to a friend and the terrained bit shows as a non texture, the orange mesh thing. odd, ive had it work before… It cant be a misplaced texture either as i use it elsewhere and it shows fine!

(Ifurita) #5

Try putting it at the top level and not in a folder e.g., peer of /maps, /textures, etc

(Grand_Mister_P) #6

Right, well, it sorted the texture, putting it in the subfolder i think, sending it to a mate to comfirm. However the other thingy isnt working, ive put the pcx in the root and it made no difference. Does this suggest that the compiler made an error? As a last resort i can always just texture the tops of the brushes in what i want, theres only about 2000 of them.

(Ifurita) #7

NO! do not texture the brush tops. If you do that, your blending will be more difficult and it will be a pain in the ass to change any textures - it’s very easy to do it thru the alpha map.

It was as a last resort, but ok then ,now its not even that! Is there any reason you know of that this error could happen? could it just be a one time slip in the compiler? On and wheres this brush cleanup tool you mentioned a while ago please?

You can find the brush cleanup tools in the plugin -> bobtoolz menu.
