A combined Australia and Asia rank queue is coming.

(MilkyBear) #1

Haven’t seen any mods post an announcement here, so i made this post here for your notice.

For more information, go here: https://facebook.com/DirtyBombGame/photos/a.463338453715495.97299.436638859718788/973973772651958/?type=3&theater

Also a queue timer is going to be added too.

Looks like a nice Ranked- themed update coming up all in all.

Good that you Asia/Aus fellas get your servers back, now when update hits, show SD some graph peaks

(PleasantWheat) #3

Funnily enough the day that they took away our ranked servers was the same day I went “you know what? I should try out this ranked thing it could be fun.” and the rest is history.

Good to know we will be getting our servers back, we generally get pretty shafted when it comes to this sort of thing.

Combined?

Combined?

EDIT: You know what, I guess it’s better than no ranked at all. Time to brush up on my Chinese.

(doxjq) #5

Ehhhhh… It’s still annoying. I can see why they do it. We have the player base there’s no doubt about that (most nights there is 20+ full servers running which is pretty good for Australia) but none of which are interested in ranked so it probably is a dumb idea to give us our own servers.

How is it done though. Does it use Asian servers only, or Australian servers only, or does it choose one based on how many players are from each region? The pings are just too high to play properly, but it is some what playable I guess.

(Ardez1) #6

My speculation for the reason behind the combination is to get them all into the same server farm and cut down on operating costs. Most likely there will be no difference between mostly Asian or mostly Australian games. My guess is that it will end up based out of Australia but I could be way off.

(RazielWarmonic) #7

We are combining the servers purely for queue time reasons. Both region’s queue times, based on previous results, is very low.

The servers will be hosted solely in Singapore for this. Hopefully that’ll result in decent ping for everyone!

Cheers!

Graphs make no sense in this department. You need a well functioning product before you start to measure anything. Matchmaking was broken, constant lobby glitches, the same cheaters playing constantly while we waited for NGS. Is there graphs from July/August last year? You also have no way to distinguish players from other regions playing on NA servers I assume.

The ping to Singapore will be the same if not worse than our ping to US west, yet we get no choice between the American servers.

I thought the Asian ranked scene was inactive, even more so than Australia/NZ, the overall players playing on Asia servers seems lower than Aus, but I guess you’d have a graph for that?

(doxjq) #9

Argh please tell me you’re kidding. Where were the servers previously based @RazielWarmonic? I ping worse to Singapore than I do to Europe  Most of eastern Australia do as well. Even Perth pings 100-120ms to Singapore. There’s been some weird routing problems to Singapore for as long as I can remember even going back to 2011.

I am not looking forward to this :frowning:

(doxjq) #10

It’s been an on-going problem for years so I’ll be surprised if the servers were previously hosted in Singapore.

For reference so you know I’m not lying. My ping to other regions.

USA

Minsk of all places which is more than twice as far away as Singapore:

(Amerika) #11

Good god, that is bad routing @rancid. I am in the very middle of the United States and I ping better. You guys should be rioting in the streets and yelling at your ISP’s to fix that.

(doxjq) #12

It’s been like this forever though, we’ve just accepted it and avoided all Singapore servers like they are the plague.

Just in case someone comes in saying “bad routing is temporary, it will be better eventually”

(TheVulpesFox) #13

Jesus, does Aus have this bad routing too? Just did my own test same thing as you @rancid 311 ping.

(doxjq) #14

Yeah it’s been like that for both Australia and NZ for years man. It isn’t a temporary thing and I am not 100% sure why the routing is so bad. I remember someone on Quake Live found the cause but I can’t remember where and what caused it, but 4 years later it’s still the same. I have a funny feeling our traffic went to China or USA or something first and then back to Singapore or something stupid.

As I said on the discord server. For Australia it probably isn’t such a big deal, because in all honesty I don’t see us ever having a “ranked” population, but this is pretty much the nail in the coffin for us. If we want to play ranked now we literally can’t or basically we’ll just have to stick to 250-300ms North American servers.

(Amerika) #15

You should do a tracert on the IP address and see where the routing goes. I’d be interested to see that.

(DarkMatterMatt) #16

I don’t know how to read this, but I used this website (http://www.speedtest.com.sg/tr.php) to do a traceroute from Singapore to NZ

If anyone bother to put it on a map I’d be interested to see it, just too busy atm, might do it tomorrow.

I live IN Seattle… This is my ping TO SEATTLE http://i.imgur.com/JNLYetf.png My ping to all games are fine. I play on Asian servers and get around 200 ping. Not bad at all… Whats up? (we poor as hell so we got the cheapest package. dont judge)

(MilkyBear) #18

If it is true that routing from AUS to Singapore is that bad, then the problem will remain the same. A low ranked population in Asia/AUS will be even lower.

I don’t mind to play on AUS server tho, i have seen a lot of Asian guys play on those servers with ok ping (150-160), still playable.

(MarsRover) #19

I’m in Europe, about twice as far from Singapore than Sydney, and my ping is just under 300, which is better than @rancid . As if I needed another reason to never visit Australia, other than big ass spiders and drop bears :scream:

(bontsa) #20

Might be quite too late to turn the boat for right now but @RazielWarmonic you fellas should really keep an eye on this server location issue in the future, and act accordingly. Singapore seems like a quite…intriguing…server location.
