5 things Splash Damage should consider working on from here on till they are finished

  1. Anti Cheat

This one’s obvious, but the sooner you get that anti cheat in, the sooner players will be more willing to hop onto competitive mode.

  1. Competitive rankings

I know a lot of people won’t like this idea, but I think we should reset the rankings for competitive, and have a new system added. How this will work is as follows.

6 Rankings, 5 tiers in each, so we have a total of 30 ranks

Lead 1 through 5
Iron 1 through 5
Bronze 1 through 5
Silver 1 through 5
Gold 1 through 5
Cobalt 1 through 5

How do you go up in rank? Well that’s up for the devs to decide but I think 30 ranks is a good start, and have it be based on score rather than kills or wins. For example, if it’s a team of 5 and they lose, look at the scores, if someone has say, more than 20% of the team’s overall score, they probably are a carry in a sense, and should be moved to higher rank so they get matched with players closer to the skill level, and vice versa. As more players play the game’s population grow, and we’ll get better matchups. Better matchups of course means a more fun and enjoyable experience.

  1. Competitive rewards

Something else I think people may not like necessarily, but I think a cool thing to add would be rewards for playing competitive. Specifically, I like the idea of adding Merc specific cases.

So say you get a Sawbonez case, well in that case is nothing but Sawbonez cards, with raritys between lead to cobalt.

How it’s rewarded is based what mercs you have in your squad, so if you have Sawbonez, Nader, and Fletcher in your squad, you’ll get a case for one of those mercs.

This way people who don’t have many mercs can get cards for mercs they actually have, while learning how to play the game as the devs intended. Competitive to the core right?

  1. An in game report system

This should be part of the anti cheat, but then again, anti cheat doesn’t always catch things right away. I think something similar to CS GO Overwatch would be great. This way people can actually watch how people aim and determine for themselves if there is something fishy going on or not. I don’t quite know the specifics of Overwatch, but I think a good model of that will do wonders for keeping this game cheater free.

  1. An in game scrim finder

Separate from competitive matchmaking, you can get matched against parties of 5 players and play. Or better yet, have it set so people choose a team name, and it gives an average ranking of all the players on the team, so other parties can see what they’re facing before they jump in.

Basically, all I’m trying to get at is if you want to balance your game Splash Damage, focus on giving the competitive community the tools they need to play. Dirty Cups is great and all, but having stuff in game available at people’s fingertips would do WONDERS for this game and it’s population, as well as give you better echo data to make your balance adjustments with.

1: they have already a new anti cheat in the make, we need to have patience with this one
2: i dont see how much different is with the current rank system
3: the cases are rng to frustrate people and hope that they buy more cases, i doubt they will give specific cases as reward.
4: They promised that they would add this to the game
5: This could indeed be fun if it got some kind of balance

I agree with everything besides competitive rank relying on score. Assault classes are vital to a team but they have the least ways to earn credits. Objective Specialists will almost always finish high, especially on a map with an EV. Maybe I’m wrong and this is the best possible system, but I think it should be win based. Also I agree it should be reset to foil any hackers who have evaded capture.

Well I don’t know what else to make it fair, because let’s be honest, even in counter strike you’ll rarely be matched with a good team.

I mean, what else could we do? Make based on percentage? If you’re winning 60% of your games you go up a rank, and you’re losing 60% of them you go down? If you’re at an even split you stay where you are?

Or maybe it takes both into account, I really don’t know.

I agree with everything.

Wow, a “fix this post” made by someone with actual experience. Not bad.

  1. I don’t really care wither way with this. I barely encounter hackers, most of them either get kicked or turn it off, and what if the anti cheat doesn’t work? Then what? We’ll just wait and see.

  2. 30 is too many. The current system seems fine to me. As for your ranking calculations, don’t bother. ELO or MMR points or whatever is very hard to calculate. Leave it to the devs to do, it would take quite a while to get a good system going.

  3. This would be a sweet idea. Similar to LoL, at the end of a match you could rate your team and the enemy team, with stuff like:
    -Great team player
    -Friendly
    -Informative
    -Honorable opponent (for enemy team)

After getting 10+ you could get an elite case. After getting 50+ you could get more elite cases, or whatever.

  1. Again, common sense, just waiting for it. Maybe people over level 20 opt in for an “Overwatch service.” If someone reports someone else ingame, they get a notification. They then watch the suspected cheater. If the person is cheating and they get called out, the Overwatcher gets a crate or something.

  2. I don’t really know about this one. Maybe implementing much further down the development roadline.

  1. can’t argue with that, everyone who does should propably get a default ban
  2. don’t see the point, we got 19 ranks now. The only problem is (as far as I have heard) is that the Devs misjudged average skilllvl and the majority is cramped into silver 1/ gold 5. I predict a recalibrating of the rank scoring at one point to make use of the full 19 ranks again (yes this would mean a large part of us would drop in ranks). As far as scoring goes, in a game that doesn’t put much value on K/D it is doubtfull that it uses that for scoring. I would bet that they already use a combination of Win/total XP/skill difference between teams to decide how much points you get/loose.
  3. wouldn’t mind that, considering that every new merc dimishes the chance to get cards for a specific merc. having lets say a 50% chance to get a Case for one of the Mercs in your squad instead of a regular case could be a nice incentive to promote competive without ruining the economy
  4. see 1.
  5. Not sure about this one at the moment, general speaking got nothing against it. But it splits the playerbase not sure if DB has the numbers right now, to seperate premades from solos (as painfull as it can be to get stomped by premades, I take that over half empty servers)

General speaking I agree competive needs a big fat promotion to bring in the players that the system needs to be good (more players = better matchups).
Maybe some sort of competive event weekends (like double credits in comp).
