5+ minutes to find a comp match?

(JLeon15) #1

I stopped playing competitive since it was full of hackers a few months ago. Today I decided to give it another try because of the season rankings, to find out that it is now taking more than 5 minutes to find a match? Of course I cancelled the search after 5 minutes of waiting and still nothing, so regardless of how much more time it was going to take, 5 minutes is already an absurd amount of time. In other games it is a lot faster, why is it taking so long? A few months ago it was taking like 2-3 minutes which was already a lot but that was maybe because of the lack of people playing it because of the hackers, and now it is taking longer? It makes no sense at all, hopefully they change it. I know it takes longer because it tries to find the best match according to rankings to make it fair and everything but there’s no point in making it efficient in those terms when it is going to take forever to find it and at the end no one will play it.

I’ve waited for over 40 minutes before. There’s just a lack of players that are playing it.

(N8o) #3

I would actually kill for a 5 minute queue. I can’t believe you are actually complaining about a 5 minute queue. I have waited 4 and a 1/2 hours for a game before. What rank are you?

(Jostabeere) #4

Noone plays comp. Mostly because of the FF.

(Ardez1) #5

@N8o He didn’t find a game. He quit at over 5 minutes.

(N8o) #6

oooh.
Still, 5 minutes is a regular time to wait. 15 is about the average.

Friendly fire? Because then I doubt it. There are tons of games with large competitive matchmaking scenes that contain friendly fire.

The reason nobody plays comp is just… people don’t want to for this game I guess.

That or its a self killing bit- where nobody plays comp because nobody plays it (long queue time) and so because nobody plays it- nobody plays it! Get what I’m saying? =P

LOL thats funny i’ve waited around 2 hours just for a competitive match @N8o Has waited atleast 4 hours just to find one.

I tried it last weekend for the first time and had a game in 2 minutes (EU server). We played a pretty well balanced game, where our team lost, but it was very close. We had one player who left near the end. I’ll try it again next 2 weeks.

What disappointed me was that I have to play 10 (TEN!) matches to even get a ranking. That’s a lot, especially considering there usually being long waiting times. Make it 5 or maybe 3, I’d say.

FF on is one of the best things that has happened to comp. Not only it stops the spray / nade / molotov / airstrike spams but it also makes competitive much more skilful, and provides some great laughs

My problem is: there is no acceptable balance in the game atm.
We have a full team of gold 5-3 and every second game is against cobalt 3-1 teams. It’s not funny, cos we’re trying hard to rank up, then we have spawnkill by colbalts…

Ive never been able to find a game on Aussie servers. I’d love a 5 min queue

(Ctrix) #13

I used to like comp. Then the cobalt people complained that not enough cobalt people were in queue (maybe that’s because they dont exist), so the devs forced matchmaking to be stricter. Now nobody can match up anymore.
So I stopped trying to queue.

(LifeupOmega) #14

Sometimes my queue is 15 minutes, others its 3 minutes. Really, really varies.

(MTLMortis) #15

I don’t want to be tossing blame, but the entire situation is completely the fault of the devs. They let the cheating and hacking go on unchecked for so long that it soured that game mode for a lot of people. As the saying goes, you have one chance to make a first impression, and they blew it.

It would have been better to simply turn off comp mode till a proper anti-cheat was in place.

That being said, it will improve gradually over time. It’s just going to take a really long time for that to happen. I know that my experience has personally closed off that game mode. Just not interested any more.

Maybe you can tolerate waiting that much time, but I am sure 99% of players will quit like I did. It just doesn’t makes sense to make people wait more than 2-3 minutes to find a competitive match. If they don’t fix this, I am sure competitive will never be such a huge thing in the game, in most other games it takes like 1 minute to get into the match, what makes dirty bomb that special that you need to wait a huge amount of time to play a ranked match? I am gold 3 (haven’t played competitive since hackers took control of it several months ago).

I am inclined to believe that 90% of the people that play competitive are willing to wait upwards of 20-30 minutes for a match.

What makes Dirty Bomb so special for the queues to be longer than a minute? Maybe it is the fact that nobody plays competitive since it has a bad reputation for hacking and the ranks are very divided. It’s a stomp for the most part. Don’t be so stuck up that you can’t wait 2-3 minutes for a game. You spend a similar amount of time loading into a pub match and deploying. Not to mention the fact that Dirty Bomb has maybe 4,000 players on at peak hours, and a large portion of them have no interest in the competitive part of this game.

As it stands right now, if you’re not willing to wait any more than 5 minutes, you’re better off playing in pubs anyways, or trying to find a pug at DBNation’s TS. The “strict” matchmaking system wont let you get many games if you’re Cobalt 3 or above. If you’re Gold 5, I can guarantee your queue will be nothing more than maybe 6-7 minutes.

There’s a number of problems with Ranked imo

  1. The lack of players, I don’t know the magic bullet for this problem but I think giving Ranked it’s own currency, drastically cheaper items and more valuable or useful ones would be a good way to get people in it. Like Merc specific cases, and trinkets that can only be bought with Ranked Currency.
  2. As the player pool grows, we’ll need some counter measures in place to make it fair. Imo, we need to scrap this whole 3 merc squad bullshit and have every merc available at any given time but you can only have 1 of each merc. So no more 2 sparks, 2 fletchers, etc, there can be only one.
  3. AND FOR GOD SAKES A BETTER GOD DAMN TUTORIAL, AND YES I WILL TYPE IN CAPS UNTIL SPLASH GETS THE FUCKING POINT. Teach people EVERYTHING they need to know to play this game right! Have a tutorial, trials for parkour and shooting, anything to help people develop their skills in a safe environment.

Imo, we do not need any more mercs, maps, or game modes until this shit is fixed. The game will not survive without a strong foundation to keep people playing.

Wow, that’s crazy.

I to, have waited over 10 minutes to find a game.

Tip: Try to find people, clan, to help you out. I played with a couple of my friends, and we found a match in a little as 5 minutes. (Although it was only five minutes for you. Which is quite fast for me.)

Also, I wish the game would be a little more competitive, by that I mean more people playing the game mode. Luckily I haven’t meant a hacker in comp, so there’s that.

im around 50 wins 20 losses and 2 of my losses were due to hackers 10 of the losses were due to solo queueing and people either rage quitting afking or just team killing.

I finally decided to just invite the best players on my friendslist so far we win 10+ in a row and only lose when were are going against @Kingsley @N8o @DeadCake im sure there is a lot of other people I lose to but they are the only ones that I have not managed to beat
