5 Merc Groups Squad System?

Currently we can choose 3 various mercs in our squad.
Team based games (especially old ET: Wolfenstein) usually have 5 classes to choose in real time. What if there was a 5 merc squad system, each one reserved for each group of mercs to choose in DB?

Offensive Slot, Fire Support Slot, Engineer Slot, Medic Slot, and Recon Slot.

Unless there’s a reason why anyone would wanna have 2-3 mercs, from the same merc group, which personally I find quite redundant. Is it intentional to be handicapped by not accessing all merc groups?

I guess that could work for noobs, as they have 2 mercs and then the 3 on free rotation, but like during closed beta most of the time free rotation were only 2 mercs, so 5 couldnt work then.
It would be a nice addition, but this would have a lot of downfalls… people having Proxy, Fletcher, Rhino AND Thunda… I dont want to think about that

I’m personally happy with 3 choices, but I wouldn’t necessarily be against 5 man squads in smaller pub games or something. I dunno. As long as it doesn’t make it to competitive play I couldn’t really care less. I think most of us main 1 character or probably 2 max in most cases and know what roles we suit best after 50 or so hours, so most people probably couldn’t care for having 5 mercs in their squad.

Well, theoretically they couldn’t choose both of them, since Proxy and Fletcha are both engineers, Rhino and Thunder are both from offensive group. They would have to pick either one of them, theoretically.

Three is enough.

Too many slots won’t bring those moments when you lose/win against enemy team just by with your merc composition.

Even 4 is too many.

Actually I like 3. 4 would be nice for when you get a mission for a merc you don’t want in your 3-person squad. I rather not have them reserved for each merc type though.

Like if I get an Aura mission, I hate playing her so much I’ll bring another medic just so I don’t have to play her, if each slot was reserved then I’ll be forced to play her or use an unsuitable merc to complete that mission

Also some people might not have bought mercs for every class. Like I don’t have any recon, If there are no recons on free rotation then I’m left empty

Imagine new players with only SkyBro and Aura - Fire support and Medic. So if you wanted them to fill all 5 spots, you would have to put Engineer, Assault and Recon in 3-merc free rotation.

It’s either 2 classes never make it to free rotation or new players have to play with 1-2 merc disadvantage depending on rotation. Both situations are bad.

Personally, i’m fine with 3 merc squad. Yes, there are situations where i’d like people to have 2 spots in squad reserved specificly for engineer and medic, but that’s actual for low ppl games or low lvl players.

I think the technical answer would be that there will be a serious client/server performance issue if an extra slot got introduced. Server will need to load and verify additional merc and load out and must send it back to other players so you don’t get 'SlenderMan models going around killing you. Extra processing of data leads to longer waiting times and more memory requirements so I think player coordination is better exercised.

The current system is made so you can’t fill every roles, making your merc choice and those you your teammates more important. This is made so you have to build up a strategy around those merc choices and try to communicate with your teammates in order to keep a balanced team. I don’t see why it should change.

Much would be solved if there was a better system for choosing mercs.

I cannot imagine that I am in a minority, making merc choices based on the map. Could we have a quick select roster pre-match, very basic collection of three mercs with a loadout each grouped together and labeled. Preferably at least enough groups to cover the number of maps.

And yes, this is mostly an issue due to joining a lobby and not having enough time to change mercs to fit the map, and the relatively new design of not seeing your teammates mercs at all, let alone being put in a team after merc selection has been made.

This cannot be the best design for a teamwork and objective based game. Actually, we all know it isn’t. No idea why I’m posting here anyway, nevermind.
