4K-Resolution - Minimap too mini ... i mean ... SMALL

Hi there,

we already have some threads about Requests for Minimap (re-)sizing but as i upgraded my setup a bit and now experience the 4k Resolution i am granted the following Minimap … which i despise enough to present you … tadaaa … the Mini-Mini-Map … but before that … for the shizzles:

Resolution: 3840x2160 (4K) — Image is resized to 1920x1080 because of Filesize-Limit


Resolution: 1920x1080


Resolution: 1280x720 — OH, and after a witty thought i tried the lowest possible


Lets see if this makes you think about reprioritizing customizable HUD-Elements (size-wise) :wink:

Definitely an issue here and something we need to support, can’t say when though, sorry!

With the current rise in 4K resolution we’ll need to address this sooner than later :slight_smile: but yeah unfortunately no definitive date.

I must admit that i made the error to focus my arguments on the 4k Resolution (which arguably has a rather a low percentage of users).

In the Pictures you can also rather easily compare 1920x1080 vs 1280x720 minimap-size (and minimap is just one of the gui-elements … they all are displayed with different ratios in each resolution) and see it bigger in smaller resolutions … should’ve tried 800x600 … will try it soon just because i made myself curious now.

But yeah … i read your replies and go quietly weeping until the sprinkled magic fairy dust of backlog grooming brings back attention to this.

i found something! i found something! runs.around.like.a.mad.scientist.waving.papers

look; while i was trying to play with wezelkrozums great gui-builder i came to realize the hint to “APPEND this to DefaultUI.ini, do not replace” … and then while sniffing around in DefaultUI.ini i was stumbling upon the following:

DefaultUI.ini

[ShooterGame.SGUIHUDMiniMap]
m_bUseRotatingMap=true
m_FiringFadeoutTime=2
m_MiniMapScale=0.3
m_MiniMapWidth=240
m_MiniMapHeight=135
m_MiniMapSpecWidth=290
m_MiniMapSpecHeight=185

i then changed width/heigth to double the values

m_MiniMapWidth=485
m_MiniMapHeight=270

and tadaa, the map was double the size. heureka!

Could someone maybe elaborate a bit on this? also what about the specwidth/-height? And why “the system” changed my doubled Width from 480 to 485?

I am really happy now to have found this … and at the same time i am really disappointed that this is not something pointed out by someone who should have experience with his/her game? Don’t you guys know your own cvars enough to point something like this out?

Anyhow, i can now expand my minimap, yay once more \o/
