3rd party Recoil compensation.

(Protekt1) #41

You think it is okay because they are not “inherently made for cheating”? lol… wow.

That is downright dumb.

(Smooth) #42

There are two things that spring to mind when preventing / punishing this kind of cheat:

[ol]
[li]The drivers / program used can be flagged as a cheat by our anti-cheat systems[/li][li]Our recoil can be more random, meaning the pre-defined patterns are less useful[/li][li]Using Echo accuracy data we can ban well over-the-top individuals (cross-referenced with the drivers)[/li][li]Using Echo we can also highlight the unusually-good ‘recoil compensators’ performers for review[/li][li]We allow players to report others for suspected cheating and review the most-reported[/li][/ol]
We also would like to allow everyone to download server-side demos shortly after a match is completed so they can judge themselves and make a case for someone cheating. This however requires more work and planning before it can become a reality.

(Glottis-3D) #43

plz, anything but not this. =)

(Smooth) #44

I know what you’re saying and more-random-recoil is not likely to happen.

We want to get the right balance between on-the-fly recoil correction and memory-based recoil correction without taking cheating into consideration as that will make the core experience feel worse.

I was just highlighting it as an option

It would be cool if there was some kind of community driven banlist (pbbans?), the ability to see flagged users & the ability to kick somebody from a server. In short move the responsibility from te devs to the community. I’d prefer the odd false positive over inaction (I don’t see the report system working… Who’s going to spend time checking all these reports? Who’s going to check them 2 years after the game’s release?).

As for anti-cheat, I’d prefer some non intrusive software that just does some minimal checks. Just the fact that there is something will make the majority of players think twice before cheating. Making it more intrusive just annoys players and let’s face it, it’s not really stopping the hackers.

The only point I like that Smooth suggested is “Using Echo accuracy data we can ban well over-the-top individuals (cross-referenced with the drivers)”, but I’d drop the cross-referencing.

(Smooth) #46

I’d say nominated community members

That’s what I’d envision for points 4 & 5.

(stealth6) #47

That sounds good, then the only problem that remains is what to do if you’re on a server with a blatant hacker? Is there a way to get rid of the person or do we just have to leave the server? (which is the current advice given in other games, but doesn’t feel gratifying and basically means the hacker won in ruining your gaming experience)

(BAMFana) #48

What is a “blatant hacker”? I’ve experienced enough hackusations in past games to know that to the average player, the difference between an amazing player and a hacker is imperceptible. With the exception of rather obvious hacks such as speedhacking, the only way to avoid frequent bans of innocent players (which is entirely unacceptable) is by requiring a heavy burden of proof for banning, including extensive demo review before taking action. Any other method leads to far worse problems than it solves.

agree on this point, remind me BF3 (or BF4 I suppose it’s the same) with all this little raging pupies crying for cheater everywere, reporting 20 peoples a day cause they are just raging when someone is better … all this lead to some abuse, making the community of this games even worse.

(Kl3ppy) #50

It’s pretty in funny how fast you get called hacker in BF3/4. I don’t know how often I was actually reported but mayn cried and called me aimbotter, wallhacker etc.
The approach of using echo sounds promising. Lets see what kind of AC tool we get and how good it is working. Also it is good that SD will care about Dirty Bomb so the AC Software will get updated during time.

The Titanfall approach of hackers is nice, once you get spotted as hacker, you get blacklisted and from that moment on, you just can play vs other blacklisted players. Must be hilarious to play vs 11 hackers

Well the level of play is so low in BF/COD it doesn’t surprise me at all. The other day someone called me cheater on XT though. Was funny ;D

Well since we’re talking about BF how about a guy standing in spawn knifing every person on the map without even moving… Is that blatant enough for you?
Or let’s teleport all enemy players to 1 spot.
Or how about constantly snapping from head to head

Or stats wise there were mostly hackers at the top of the leaderboard after the release of BF3 and it took weeks for something to be done about it.

I’m interested to see how Titanfall’s system will work, but I fear that humanized aim or no-recoil etc are still going to slip through the cracks. In these cases you’d need to review demos etc as BAMFana said, but I don’t really care about these players since they are very very hard to detect and don’t completely ruin the experience for other players (no more than a really good player does - so you could just combat this with the matchmaking system).

I’m looking at this from a pub / casual mindset. Obviously when it comes to competitive matches reviewing demos becomes more important.

Lol that kind of obvious bots should result in an instant ban. No doubt to have there. Can’t even understand why people create such things… they must be really *****ing retarded, I mean litteraly.

(Kl3ppy) #54

As long as some kids buy the hacks they will program them.

(k1ruaa) #55

You’re right, thoses kids are the most retarded. Never understood the point playing with something that remove all the challenge of the game.

(BomBaKlaK) #56

The cheat for Dirty Bomb is already here ! ;p

[QUOTE=Anti;482672]For those that are interested, here is some of what Echo spotted him doing.

I hope a real anticheat, regularly updated.

Of course I think it’s ok to use macro software as long as you don’t use it for cheating. Don’t see what’s wrong with that. And if they’re going to start banning people for using certain software then they need to put in a warning and/or automatically close them every time you launch the game, otherwise there’s going to be a ton of unjustified bans. Still doesn’t solve the problem with macros in the on-board memory of the mouse.
