3d, Move, Mouse Keyboard on Consoles?

(MrX) #41

Guys there is an adapter for ps3 to put keyboard and mouse.I dont want to post any links cause i dont want to advertise programms but do some search in youtube and ull see.It works for many fps and has good customizations:>

The point is having it legitimately supported so you don’t need to pay for some hardware hack and that players can be filtered by control type if necessary. The fact that people make money off those devices (which contradicts the ususal excuse of everyone is happy with controllers) and how they undermine the fairness of gaming on consoles (again the excuse for not including it upfront despite then being able to tell what people are using) should be reason enough to put the support in the games.

(MrX) #43

Using a keyboard mouse on console is like using a cheat. If keyboard /mouse implementation was legal then nobody would play with a controller and then the term console would not exist.Console goes with a controller .Making the devs using filters for hardware recognition is a long discussion. U must understand that u bought a console and not a pc .So asking for features that the console designers dont want u to have is contradictive. Also putting filters on kb/mouse and controllers splits the game community and makes it unfair for those who cant afford kb/mouse

manufacturers that continually ignore customer demands seldom have happy endings

It didn’t hurt the Quake 3 or Unreal Tourny communities on the Dreamcast in any way, shape or form. Sega released their own mouse and keyboard for it at a snip of £10 for the mouse and £15 for the keyboard (not that 3rd party mice and keyboards are expensive as they are?), they also did bundle deals with the games that supported it… I bought Q3 with M+KB for £60… people will pay twice that to get a backpack or night vision goggles with a game. I also never met anyone on a controller that complained when playing against M+KB users, in fact some chose to use the controller out of preference saying they thought M+KB users were at a disadvantage!

The input device doesn’t classify a console, the console does.

Wrong.Console is for simplyfing things and that is the use of a controller.Ive played with mouse and keyboard on console (killzone 2)and my advantage to opponents was tragically big.Its unfair and also think the fact that console developers want to sell their controllers cause they break easily and make you buy a new one.Its marketing.

(DarkangelUK) #47

How does the input device unsimplify a console? It’s a dedicated gaming platform, insert game and play, nothing about that is changed by how you move your little man about on screen.

(MrX) #48

First is the price.A good decent keyboard/mouse would cost you 60-70 dollars.Console means more relaxing play.Using keyboard mouse means u need a desk and not a couch. With keyboard /mouse developers would have to make custom key assignments for all the keyboard(complex).Custom sens for mouse(complex).Menus for mouse support(complex). It’s a dedicated gaming platform, insert game and play with a controller 8-10 buttons already assigned.Users must set up their keyboard (keys assignments)(complex).Consoles are most used with a tv so u cant play with a keyboard mouse and a desk 3 metres away. Finally as i said its marketing policy ,they want to sell their controllers that break more easy cause of button smashing

(Nail) #49

controllers only break if you abuse them, same as any other device. If you keep breaking them, you’re doing it wrong

[edit] btw, I have a wireless KB/M and play some games in bed w/60" plasma, we’ve said it before, a desk does not gaming make

(MrX) #50

Wrong again they break very easy(their parts include rubber that gets looser after playtime and end up dead).Reason beat em up games ,soccer, fighting games.some combos are way to hard tha u abuse the controller in order to execute them:> Ive played street fighter 4 for 1 year in G1 rank and ruined 3 controllers+plus the others used arcade stick(another unfair device).Good arcade sticks cost 100$

Wireless mouse lose responsiveness and its a fact.

(Nail) #51

WRONG ???

I work with 4 level 4 foster kids, they’ve trashed everything in the house at one time, but have never broken a controller by playing and these guys have rage issues worse than Gaddafi

it’s a poor craftsman that blames his tools, less rage, more finesse

Must be hell working with these kids. They must love their controller then
A hardcore gamer always buys a new controller in 5-6 months. My friend who is a ps3 addict has ruined 2 controllers in 1 year and he is carefull as hell. Its the rubber parts that do the damage by pressing them many times they losen up.Its like laptops they have faulty parts on them ,espcecially motherboard parts and end up being burned after 2-3 years in order to by a new one.

No it’s like using an alternative controller (steering wheel for example). Using a hack as you suggested would be more akin to cheating as you’re doing something the game was not designed for.

If keyboard /mouse implementation was legal then nobody would play with a controller and then the term console would not exist.

Untrue, people would have a choice and many people have said they’re happy with controllers. Your argument is like saying a PC isn’t a PC if you plug a controller in to play a game. Best tool for the job.

And since when is a games console defined by having a controller only?

Console goes with a controller .Making the devs using filters for hardware recognition is a long discussion.

Seems quite simple to me. Especially when you’re already coding and balancing for a PC version.

U must understand that u bought a console and not a pc .So asking for features that the console designers dont want u to have is contradictive.

The PS3 supports KB+M, developers do not support it and won’t unless they see a demand for it.

Also putting filters on kb/mouse and controllers splits the game community and makes it unfair for those who cant afford kb/mouse

It splits it into how people want to play and may encourage more people to play given the choice.

Can’t afford a KB+M, I’d say they cost less than a $60 controller.

(MrX) #54

I was talking about using a keyboard mouse when the game isnt designed for .I know i didnt mention it but my thought got carried away a little;p

You cant seriously think that in an fps the controller works better

All consoles are bought with a controller on it.All the other devices included in a box raise the price. So the base is console+controller

Making a filter is simple for the devs but no so nice for the community

PS3 doesnt support keyboard/mice cause they dont want to ,they lose money. The only way is for them to create their own and force all the developers to introduce k/m support to all their games. But they made the Move instead.

Good mouse cost 50 euro and above they are not so cheap.

(Nail) #55

good mouse cost $20, specialized mice cost more

but, I’ll tell you, playing Settlers with a Logitech MX Air on a 60" plasma while lying in bed is a gas

(MrX) #56

Good mouse for fps cost 50 and above.Brink is an fps game its not an rts so u cant play while lying in bed ;p

(DarkangelUK) #57

If the game isn’t designed for it, then the devs wouldn’t add implementation for it…

You cant seriously think that in an fps the controller works better

Welcome to the whole point of the debate, stay and have some coffee!

All consoles are bought with a controller on it.All the other devices included in a box raise the price. So the base is console+controller

Pointless rhetorical statement

Making a filter is simple for the devs but no so nice for the community

that’s even if a filter is required. Did you ever play on the Dreamcast? Thriving community with no split or whine.

PS3 doesnt support keyboard/mice cause they dont want to ,they lose money. The only way is for them to create their own and force all the developers to introduce k/m support to all their games. But they made the Move instead.

Back to Unreal 3. How will money be lost? I’d like something more than speculation please.

Good mouse cost 50 euro and above they are not so cheap.

If you want to spend money on an expensive mouse, a decent mouse is less than that. Logitech MX518 £24.99, same as a controller… and a mouse can be used on multiple games. Look at the fight stick for the Street Fighter series, people are willing to spend twice as much on a periph that’s designed for one game series, so i’m willing to bet they’d spend less on a mouse.

(Nail) #58

I can do lots of things in bed, games have always been one of them

While you may not thinks it’s a good idea, personally, I’ll play wherever I want to. If I want to sit in bed and play on my lapdesk, I shall, so there

don’t cofuse your opinion with fact

(MrX) #59

They lose money cause u buy something that last longer than a controller and u use that instead.
You forgot the keyboard add that to the price.

Ps. I didnt have a dreamcast ;<

(MrX) #60

I can play with a keyboard /mouse attached to the roof but that doesnt give the same perfomance in an fps as playing to a desk and sitting to a comfortable chair.
