3d models rips? (will people who use these be sued)

(enigmaplatypus) #1

so i ran into a reddit thread where someone has managed to rip dirty bomb models and import them to blender. My question is if the people who own dirty bomb would take legal action against this? (some companies love to see what the community creation using their models and some companies will take you to court.)

Thought there was a rule list on here stating something about people using dirty bomb content without permission or that BS.

Hi! I made that thread on Reddit. As with the post I made here, I said I’d be happy to alter or remove the models if SD/Nexon wants, however what I’ve done is only a convenience, because it’s already been posted everywhere how to get at the PSKs. So have fun with them, unless Nexon or SD have a real problem with this they’ll probably look the other way like Valve did with people ripping stuff out of their games.

i am just a bit worried. i just don’t want to get sued for using their models or have my accounts suspended (i know a few people who where almost sued for making models of copyrighted characters and several who lost their youtube channels)

@RazielWarmonic should be able to answer this

I don’t know for sure, but the general rule of fan creations is “Don’t be a dick”, so if you want to make DB fan art / promotional art and you treat the characters and IP with respect you’ll likely be fine.

(Nail) #7

we had this question before, iirc, it was stated for fan art, fine, but that was static images, importing the 3D models and animating them is likely a no go

edit: this would be to stop animations that aren’t actually in game, like back flips, rolls etc, people could get the wrong idea

I do know that Blizzard has supposedly sent cease and desists to certain companies who use the WoW models for animations. :#

(DarkMatterMatt) #9

I believe that I read somewhere that you can use DB content for non-commercial purposes… I don’t remember where I read this, so take it with a pinch of salt

(Nail) #10

for sure, MissMurder confirmed it a while back, but animating the 3D extractions B) might concern SD, I’d ask them directly

If you’re not being malicious or making money off using the models, then you should be fine.

However, things like monetized YouTube videos are not okay.
