What source to ppl use for their 3d models. Do most map designers make their own or do they use a 3rd party service like this one…

Oboy! $700 for a bunch of numbers representing a tiny boat, I think I am in the wrong business.

I don’t think any mappers here have a desire to spend that kind of money for a model in our map. Most of us do this as a hobby, so money like that is out of the question. Also, the model you have linked to is around 93,000 polygons. Needless to say, the Q3 engine can not handle a model anywhere near that size.

I continued to browse the site because I saw mention of a low poly version. For $55, you can get the low poly version, but personally, I think it looks like crap.

This boat I created in 2 evenings, it was the first model I ever created, and it was free.

Well i definitely agree with you chavo. Just wondering if there were less expensive options besides doing one for yourself.

Usually the community is pretty good about sharing things they’ve previously done. So if you find someone who has already made something you need, and ask them if you can use it, they might be inclined to let you.

If you are in search of a PT boat, Papaso had one on his webpage. It appears he has taken the models off of his website though. :frowning:

You could try emailing him about it though.

“The price for this 9 CD collection in 3dsmax format is $750 USD. -Four hundred ninety five US dollars - . No subscription, no price per model. The full collection for 750 $. No additional cost. Express shipping and handling also included.”

I think that price is for the whole collection. 5000 models. I guess its not much if you consider all the work that went into it. I dunno Im not a 3d Model Maker.
