30th September Dev Stream Round-Up

(Faraleth) #1

Remember, as always, unless specifically stated as confirmed, please take everything with a grain of salt.

Got a burning question that’s missing? Was I blinded and missed something that you’re turtley dying to ask? Check out the FAQ here: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/17544/dev-nexon-stream-faq

News:

  • There is definitely a good possibility we will see some form of “competitive season” feature in the future, however if they do implement it, it will be in their own form and style. They stated they don’t want to make it too generic.
  • There is no specific time or date for the new skins and loadouts, however they will definitely be coming.
  • They acknowledge the fact that there have been some significant FPS drops in the recent update, and there are several people are working on improving this.
  • Clarification: There will NOT be any user-hosting servers in the near future (ie. Hosted from the user’s own PC). They have considered a server “rent” system, but right now the private matching is designed to fill this place.
  • They would love to do seasonal events and promo’s, however they are not happening right now, due to not wanting to take development time away from the main plan.
  • A little off-topic, but – We will hopefully be getting some solid answers in the future to questions. Every week you can submit questions to me on threads such as this one (there’s a new one each week on the Nexon forum) and he will get proper answers for us!

Possible changes/updates:

  • NGS is “being worked on”. No details exactly, nor an expected date of an update to this, sadly.
  • There has been a LOT of work on MG-related issues recently. They will be receiving some improvements in a near-future update (No exact details, but this likely involves hit-boxes and mounting issues, among other small things).
  • Changes have been made to Fletcher’s “Lock On” augment. No details exactly as to what those are.
  • The Dreiss is DEFINITELY “getting some love”. Sounds like we will see a buff very soon.
  • There are no further shotgun improvements in the works, however they will keep an eye on all the data to make sure SMG’s don’t out-perform Shotguns completely, like before.
  • It’s “not out of the question” for augments to be completely replaced with something more useful. Shoe gave an example of how throwing knives were removed and replaced with quick-slash, and used Pineapple Juggler as an example of something that may need replacing or reworking.

Extra info:

  • Guest: “AK” – Level Designer
  • AK did Tough Mudder, which sounded like a lot of fun! They raised an awesome 78% of their target goal, still something to be proud of.
  • Question: How many people are actually working on DB full time? – “There are 6 level design, I know that. Not sure on the accurate numbers for the rest of the team, so I will let you know soon.” (Sounds like there is upwards of 30, at least… possibly more.)

If you asked a question on my question request thread this Sunday and don’t see it here, fear not! These are only the points covered tonight; there are more streams this week.

Enjoy… Until next time! #roundup

thank god for Lock On rework.

If this happens, I will actually start paying attention to streams again. It’s tiring hearing the same questions week in week out with the same answers of “We’d like that!” “We’re not against it” “We can’t say” “Soon” - I understand their position, but it doesn’t make for great viewing.

Curious what the dreiss change will be, I assume it’s not just re-upping the RoF, which honestly I’d be perfectly fine with.

Good job as always with the stream notes F-man.

(Faraleth) #4

@Backuplight I am doing my best to try and push for solid answers… :frowning: Hopefully we will hear some good stuff “soon”! (Sorry, I had to c:)

(triteTongs) #5

Good. That nerf was so illogical.

It has the best iron sights in the game, but you got punished if you used them. Makes sense, gotta keep the hipfire meta going

(Backuplight) #6

Haha. Yeah, I know - can’t force 'em to answer if they aren’t ready to answer!

16 level designers?

THEN WHERE ARE MY MAPS BITCH?

Replace Lock On with Quick Draw, sorted!

(neverplayseriou) #9

Hmmm might try arty again played him only like 2 days

I assume that was on a discussion about user administrated dedicated servers…? The way it’s formulated could give the impression they were discussing peer-to-peer servers. A dedicated server is NOT run from a users PC, at least not in the sense that a ‘user’ is one running a DB client, and a PC and server is not the same thing, hence ‘dedicated,’ since it’s dedicated to servicing DB clients (but not running them.)

tldr and/or confused: instead of ‘user-hosting servers’, write ‘user administrated dedicated server running from a machine under the users control’ (because that’s what you meant.)

At least they are not definitely ruling it or public clan servers out anymore.

Exactly, I am reading last stream roundups and was just wondering if they are even answering anything there at all. It’s like non-sense for last few weeks, with same questions and same answers all over again… If they would just go and actually provide answers on some valid raised points like here : http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/18233/sick6-newbs-feedback-post-v2

Or at least provide answers on questions from Faraleth thread… but well, if they think that this is community interaction… blah, I am actually to leave DB again, just because there is zero effort from dev side to work with community.

Last time I left it was mainly because Nexon forum was like to be supposed to be the official one, but they continued discussing stuff in Alpha forum and not answering things at all on official beta forum… Now they just stopped communicating at all except few clown-streams … lolol

All aboard the hype train! Choo choo!

This is something that kind of bugs me. This forum might as well just be a community fan site forum most of the time. I don’t have a lot of confidence that bugs we discuss here get noticed or logged anywhere, though that isn’t to say the same bugs don’t get discussed on the SD forums or wherever else.

Issues like the non-refresh of missions have been around forever, but I’ve yet to hear them mentioned. Yeah, we can bring it up on the stream, but when it’s come up so many times on the official forum we shouldn’t have to.

On the flip side, I do quite like our forum community on the whole, so it could be worse!

UPDATE: Someone on Reddit informed me apparently Shoe said “6 level designers”, not “16 level designers”. Due to me being unable to check right now, and I over-heard that part as I was typing up other notes, I have amended it just to be on the safe side.

Will update further if/when we receive a response in regards to the original question of - how many people are currently working on DB?

That’s still kinda sad.

6 people are working on maps and level design, but Dome, Overground, and Canal have not been textured for months >.>

Oh well, I am just happy it’s getting done. I’m sure they’re working on it.

I hope to god that fletcher wont get yet another buff. He already shits on every other engineer when used by competent player and is already a major pain in the ass to deal (i even need to use fragger with ushakeable to have a winning chance on some spots).

People will still probably beg for buffs, stickies too hard -_-

Fletcher is good but he’s not that much better than other engis. He is the best for being aggressive and playing with corners and such. However you say a competent Fletcher will dominate any other engineer, what about a competent Bushwhacker? He is an extremely stronk engineer too and that turret can be a true pain if used by a good player. Bushwhacker also has an advantage with his SMGs if he plays his range right.

(watsyurdeal) #20

Well…6 level designers makes more sense…but I still want my maps
