30th November Dev Stream Round-Up [AUDIO SPECIAL]

Audio:

  • They want to “fix” it so that weapons sound different, in different environments, to make it more realistic. Right now weapons sound the same in Underground, as they do on Bridge.
  • The grenade audio (beep) when throwing the grenade is supposed to start when you begin cooking it, not when you let go of it. This should be fixed in the future.
  • Commander audio will be improved so that it’s not a simple generic “disarmed C4, plant another!”. They want to make special audio unique for every objective.
  • Guns are more audible based on how dangerous the gun is in range. This is why sniper’s can be heard for much further than shotguns or SMG’s.
  • Gun audio is recorded in a variety of ways - some are real weapons, while others are created from various other objects or sources.
  • Phantom’s “trick or treat, mother fucker” line from the Dirty Bomb Scrubs E3 trailer will be added to the game “sooner or later”.

Possible changes/updates:

  • “Guardian Angel” augment will be getting a small update in the future, so that it gives you a “3D sound hint”. This means you will be able to locate where and how far away the orbital strike is coming from.
  • The looping audio bug is aimed to be fixed “within the next 2 updates”. It’s sadly one of the biggest bugs they have and will take a lot of work to ensure fixing it doesn’t simply stop audio when it shouldn’t.
  • They want to add an “I’m coming” audio for medics moving towards downed team-mates, so they don’t K-out or respawn while the medic is on their way to them.
  • There is a bug where the game will occasionally drop the proximity mine sound, so that they are silent when you are close to them. This will be fixed in the next update.

25th November Notes: (These are from last week’s stream, but were not posted in it’s own post.)

  • There will be an update “at some point next week” for several bug fixes for Thunder. There are several known issues currently.
  • “Phantom will be receiving looks at.” It was noted that they realise he doesn’t really fall into a specific category. They want to make him more of a team-player, while retaining his “assassinyness”.
  • Containment War event loadouts will NOT return, however there will be other events in the future.
  • “The concussion grenade will be tweaked and fixed.” It sounds like the only changes to him will be to make sure everything is working-as-intended.

Extra Info:

  • Guest: Galavant - Audio Designer
  • Galavant did some work on Indie games and recorded his own sound libraries.
  • They showed a clip for audio, and a certain unreleased merc was using the weapon - shoe. stated this definitely had nothing to do with the next or future merc release, as the footage was recorded a long time ago. Take this with a grain of salt.

Considering we never saw Turtle in a previous build, I’m gonna call bullshit, and say the next merc is Turtle.

At least he’ll have good weapons we hope, it seems the BR 16 is his shindig.

Seems like the usually make updates in wednesday, but since the add Thunder in a tuesday, in 1 or 2 days :stuck_out_tongue:

The same for Redeye, buffing his abilities so he gain more xp won’t make him usefull, but the smoke is in a good spot, the problem will be his main weapons and maybe a stronger selection of secondaries

Phantom might actually become a proper CQC recon merc and not the joke he is now?

They really need to revert the turn limiter and just change how many frames his blade can damage for, and give him a spotter ability or something. It’s a bit too logical of a fix for him, but we’ll see.

Probably a bit late to mention now but DB has terrible/non-existent height sound staging. Everything sounds as if you are at ear height - rather annoying on some maps like Underground.

If you look at any picture of turtle and compare his glove to the image there it’s pretty much the exact same thing

Hopefully that means they will finally add another support ability to Phantom to make him actually valuable. It’s what he is seriously lacking right now.

I’m not sure about making guns sound different in different areas of the maps. That sounds more like a sound guy wanting to do something fun with his job as opposed to making a consistent experience for the playerbase. I do not believe I would want my gun to sound different depending on where I was. But I play with music a lot anyway so it’s not like it would matter too much :slight_smile:

The looping audio has been such a huge bug for quite some time. I know they have tried multiple times to put in fixes for it and it’s either made it worse or didn’t touch the bug in the past. Hopefully they will be able to dedicate some serious time to it as opposed to hacking in a possible fix which is what it sounded like they tried in the past.
