20 hours in: A couple questions and comments

First off. Loving the game. Really well done and I hope it has a long life.

I am colorblind in the red spectrum among others (reds look brown). Has there been any talk about making a colorblind color option? BF4 has this and it was a god send for those of us with this affliction.

also, I am having trouble with my muscle memory switching between a couple of the mercs. Going from skyhammers ammo packs to sawbonez med packs is killing me (one is on E the other on Q). I would love to change the keyboards on a per merc basis to allow me to put all of the packs on 1 key and everything else on the other. This way I will stop calling airstrikes on my spawn :frowning:

Colour blind has been brought up here before but I’m unsure of any official plans. Someone else might know of them though.

You are currently, and probably permanently, unable to set keybinds on a per merc basis. Don’t worry that your muscle memory is getting confused, you’ll learn.

First of all welcome to the forums and the game! Now onto your questions. A colorblind mode IS being worked on! Confirmed by the devs. However there is no estimate on when it will be ready, we have no idea. As for the muscle memory thing, yeeeaaah. That gets everyone at first but you get used to it eventually, just takes longer. No talk on fixing that.

Sry to tell you, your muscle-memory probably is just fine, and you are hitting the right key, but in the end, still the wrong one, don’t ya? Yes really, most of us playing multiple mercs having problems with it. Only our brains aren’t used to the other setup of this buttons, but that’s a thing we ALL are aware of, probably even the people not having some more or less dominant medical condition.
But yes, I hope they will introduce a higher-language(don’t know if it’s the right word for it) script-language for every possible conditon, even when going to toilet, and let us all set each colour to the right wavelenght, so our sensors work the most efficient to do the optimal merc-business.
So shall we all be equal in this game, like in the “real” sports, like the “Tour de France”, even the people riding wheelchairs. At least I! hope so, may nobody be excluded from something, and nobody feeling kinda beeing an outsider or even feeling like him/her beeing discriminated in this, perfect-, world game.

Well that was kind of my next question. In rtcw and et:w we could set up key scripts. Is this still allowed? If so I could have some extra keys dedicated to switching the keymaps based on merc.

Howdy and welcome,
While there is no easy, official colourblind mode, if it is just the team colours you want to change there are ways to do it via modifying the shooterui.ini file. That may help you pick out the enemy easier and put you on a level playing field with the non-colourblind folks.
If that will work for you and you are okay with some simple editing to a text file you can search in google for the answer or ask me to find it if you cant.
Happy hunting.

(I have done this myself for a little while and did not receive any bans and have not heard of people banned for this but be aware it is an unsupported change and I dont know the official standpoint on changing the files)

You will never be banned or suspended for altering .ini files.

I was afraid to ask that, but since you brought it up, T H A N K S.

I’ve been tinkering with my .ini files for tweaks and stuff but I seem to get kicked by NGS so I keep reverting to “previous stable .ini”

@K1X455 Are you sure it’s the .ini tweaks and not the widespread issue where the AC crashes and then kicks you for a “security violation”? I really think the tweaks are fine. Anything they disapprove of they simply disable, making the tweaks have no effect.

I play pretty much all of the mercs and I’ve never even noticed packs being on opposite keys. And I play A LOT of Sawbonez and Skyhammer. I guess my brain just doesn’t give a damn.

But yeah, a colorblind mode is coming at some point but as stated it won’t be for a while.

And @K1X455 you aren’t getting booted because you’re messing with your .ini file. You’re getting booted because NGS right now has some issues since it’s new and it crashes from time to time which is what is booting you. It’s a known issue and it will hopefully be fixed soon.

Aaahhh…so if it crashes, it boots me?

Can I debug it?

*weenk weenk

You can check out the crash dump files as I believe some are generated but that’s about all you can do  And yes, instead of giving an error that says NGS crashed it gives you a security violation error which makes the crashing even worse as some people feel as though they are being booted for things they are running and are upset by it. So I hope it’s addressed in the next patch.
