2-round burst weapon idea

(poiSon-) #1

I’ve heard that some people would like a 2-round burst weapon/4-round burst weapon. So I did some snooping around and found this weapon that I felt like would suit Dirty Bomb, the AN-94.

"The AN-94 is an assault rifle of Russian origin. The AN-94 was designed as a potential replacement to the AK-74 series of rifles currently in service with Russian Armed Forces. Due to complex design and expense, its adoption has been very slow and it is in limited use, and it most likely will never become general issue. As of March 2013, the AK-74M is still the general issue rifle used by the Russian Armed Forces, with the AN-94 being discontinued in 2006.

The stated great advantage of the AN-94 system is its ability to delay the recoil force until the fired round/s have left the barrel. This, it is claimed, enables more ‘hits’ on target under the most adverse combat conditions.
The AN-94 offers a unique two-shot burst function at a stated 1800 rounds per minute rate of fire. The Nikonov mechanism fires the second shot in the burst quickly enough to allow it to escape before the recoil of the first shot is felt, thus potentially allowing the two shots to hit extremely close together, for example to aid in piercing body armor"

I feel like this weapon would suit a character that is Russian (the basic card with no augments should have it by default is what I’m saying) a former Spetsnaz turned into a mercenary, what the characters abilities are and their stats is a different story.

So, here are my questions:

  1. How would you feel if this weapon would be in the game?
  2. What stats would you give the weapon?
  3. Would you think sticking with the name “AN-94” is good?

Let’s discuss!

  1. i like any new weapon added into the game
  2. dmg/ bullet same with BR but the burst speed is the same as stark but bigger shot grouping than stark
  3. i like Nikonova or Avtomat better (AN-94 is Avtomat Nikonova 94)

The gun model doesn’t really mean anything for me, this is as good as any imo.

I’d give it slightly higher or same RPM than the Stark with higher damage, so each burst has similar damage potential. Give it a longer burst interval, and 20 or 22 round magazines. This is more comparable to the Grandeur, but harder to land both headshots at range and better ADS spam potential. If it has decent iron sights, or even gasp a sight attachment, that’s be peachy.

Agree with @sweetColumn (hey you quoted the whole OP btw) on the name. Generally, I don’t like acronyms for “made-up” gun names.

What about if the bullets were similar with the timik but let’s say, AP? (Armour Penetration) The same burst speed sounds good. And I also agree with the bigger shot grouping.

3. i like Nikonova or Avtomat better (AN-94 is Avtomat Nikonova 94)
Nikonova sounds unique, avtomat is simply rifle in Russian. After I had a look at what the guns are called in DB it seems like a mixture of acronyms and a full name (Timik and M4 etc.) Nikonova will fit in quite well I think

What about if the RPM was higher than stark and the damage was similar with timik except slightly higher? (820-30 RPM around about and headshot dmg= 30 vs timik’s= 28) I feel like the burst interval should be low (do you mean by bullet delay?) maybe like 0.06s. The low round magazine sounds good too, I would say 20 would be good. I feel like being able to land both headshots at range would be good considering that’s what the gun would be cable of doing in irl situations (even if the game isn’t trying to be exactly realistic). I would prefer a kobra sight (http://insurgency.wikia.com/wiki/Kobra_Sightsomething like that).

I’m guessing that’s a yes for Nikonova.

AN-94 was called “Abakan” because of the contest so… maybe use that one

Nikolai-94 is the only thing came to my head :\

@NoOne
Avtomat is translated from automatic

Nikonov is the one who created the gun, also he had prototype for double barrel Machinegun
The prototype is now located the M.T. Kalashnikov museum in Izhevsk.

  1. It seems like it would be a nice addition to the game.
  2. I’m not so sure what the stats would be, so I will leave that question to the ones who know better.
  3. The name, I would like it to be Nikolai-94 or Nikolajev-94, or something with his name, but I would prefer it without ‘‘Avtomat’’.
I know it’s Russian, but avtomat is a word most often used for vending machine in my language, and I just know that it would make me laugh using a gun named ‘‘vending machine-94’’
Well, actually that might not be so bad. Maybe it should have avtomat in it’s name.
