2 (probably) simple questions

hey all

i have 2 questions …
i tried searching for them but i couldn’t find anything as i didn’t know what to look for exactly…

first, in the map im making i want there to be a lot of “hints” to the player… i dunno how to explain but for example when you are near the Tankbarrier in goldrush it says “You are near Tankbarrier 1” (or something)
I know this is done with trigger_objective_info …
but in my map there need to be alot of those, and when i try to run it in ET it says i have too many…

is there any other way or displaying these sort of messages to players? (so in the middle of the screen, not in the console or anything, it has to be quite obvious)

question 2,
i cant get spawnpoints to work correctly :S
and by this i mean no forward spawns or anything, just plain " Allies spawn at position 1 and Axis spawn at position 2" …
when i place a few blue spawn things somewhere along with the yellow block and the purple block (dont know the names atm :P) it works fine, but when i try to put a red spawn thing (with another yellow and purple block) somewhere else all the spawn things leak (red and blue) when i try to compile…
what am i doing wrong here?

many thnx in advance…
Nick

1: d/l northpole source… there you will find many examples for what you are looking for.

  1. sending text to a player in the map can be done two ways, with exceptions for each. *(hint:press n for entity inspector)
    a) First method. Use a trigger_objective_info, these display the “you are near…” messages, A trigger_objective_info with key/value - track/message. With a t_o_i, “you are near” is always appended to your message. Con: toi’s are needed for func_constructable, and func_explosive if players have to dynomite anything. There’s a limit to how many the map can handle at one time. (8’ish I think)

b)Second method: Use wm_announce “message” in your script. For when players either destroy something or move a tank to a certain point. These are limited to “Global” messages though. (Both teams see the message)

    c) you could set up a trigger_multiple to trigger a wm_announcement.

There’s also the VO script for playing recorded messages. check out the sound/scripts folder and open a .sound file to see how those are set up.

For your spawns, make sure they are set to “start active” its a checkbox in the entity inspector. default is set that way so you can have dormant spawns that activate later.

That should get you into your map and seeing messages, possibly hearing voices :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, with the target_print entity. http://splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=6243

This will display text on the lower part of players screens.
