News:

  • We will know who the next merc is “before Monday”. The Monday she was referring to was confirmed to be the 19th.
  • There are FACTIONS coming to Dirty Bomb. The first of these to be revealed is the “Jackals”, they are the attackers. http://i.imgur.com/L8mCElr.png
  • Factions are designed to add more lore to the game world and flesh out the world a lot more.
  • There may be a NEW way to earn credits in the near-future.
  • There are “triple M’s” in the next update… Merc, map… mode? Nothing actually confirmed on this.
  • Question: Can we have another Execution test weekend? – “You will no longer need execution test weekends… Soon enough.” (Further hints that this is coming in the update)
  • There will likely be NO double merc release again. Kira and Rhino were a special event. Don’t count this as a “never”, but there certainly isn’t one planned.
  • Reminder: DB Nation tournament proving grounds is this weekend!

Possible changes/updates:

  • There will definitely be new weapons in the near future! (Perhaps the most obvious is the new LMG as used by Thunder)
  • They know people are not happy with the competitive missions, and some other missions as a whole. There will likely be an update to the mission system in the near future – it’s definitely being worked on (doubtful this will be in the next update though, it sounds like a near-future plan, rather than immediate).
  • Phantom is “in a good spot” right now. Sounds like Phantom will NOT be changed further any time soon.
  • Question: Can we ever have loadouts separated from skins? – “Hopefully. In the future, it would be nice to have, definitely.” (A little vague but that’s all that was said :c )
  • Recommended: Do not use the trade-in system right now. There will be further changes/improvements to it.

You know, I really do believe he is in a balanced place as far as firepower and ability are concerned. I think he is just not fit to the game, which is why he is so weak unless clearly over powered. A couple of my friends were actually talking about this earlier. Nobody uses him because he really has no use as a “recon” merc.

Nice to see someone else who gets it! xD I agree completely, Phantom is technically “balanced” in every way (such as his fire-power, ability functionality and performance), however he’s such a mixed bag of different things, he struggles to be useful at one thing in particular. So what COULD Phantom be used for?

  • Killing people? No, he doesn’t have the fire-power of Fragger for that.
  • Invisible scouter? No, Red-Eye is better in every way with an actual spotter ability and doesn’t need to get close.
  • Tank? No, his shield is too weak for that. It doesn’t add anything or do anything that great for him. Rhino is the obvious tank, even if he isn’t that great either, he’s still better than Phantom in the role.
  • Sneaky melee assassin thing? Pfft, no. You can hear him coming a mile off. You’d be better off playing Proxy with quick-slash or something. She’s faster and has the objective-specialist ability.

His real problem is he is trumped in every kind of role he has the “ability” to do, by other mercs, who also have further viability. Just because he’s balanced, doesn’t mean he’s good, it just means his abilities are of equal power to other mercs.

I still think it would be nice to see a proper reword of Phantom as follows:

  • Remove his shield (the player should not have a fail-safe for failing to use the cloak correctly).
  • Make him slightly less visible and quieter.
  • Increase his speed to 420 (up from 410).
  • Change his primary weapons to: Empire 9, MP-400 and Tolen MP.
  • Secondary ability: Cloak EMP.

I’ll explain the “cloak EMP” a little better here. This ability would require Phantom to get close to whatever he wishes to use it on (similar to Phoenix’s heal) and depending on how much of his cloak COOLDOWN charge he has remaining - not the actual time on his clock - is how long the EMP lasts for (ie. if there is 6 seconds left on the cloak cooldown, that is how long the EMP charge will deactive the target).

The EMP burst depletes the rest of his cloak instantly, making him visible and vulnerable, but will deactivate any of the following for the remaining time on his cloak: C4 charge, EV, turrets, healing stations, Sparks REVIVR, Red Eye IR goggles, heartbeat sensor. - Note: The charge does NOT stack. If another Phantom does this, it simply overwrites the remaining time on the target with the new disable time (for example, if something has 4 seconds left and another Phantom uses a 6 second EMP burst, the time on it will be 6 seconds, not 10).

I think this kind of functionality will allow him to sneak in and be FAR more useful. Delaying a C4 charge to help defuse would be great, and his cloak allows him to sneak up close and let it off - so it’s not as powerful as a straight up “EMP grenade” and requires more thought/planning, but can be very powerful when used correctly.

Just an idea. ^.^

Actually, his refractive armor give off xp when enemies get near. You can use your mic to say “Someone’s near me at _____”

What I’d love to see is more happening when enemies get near, maybe it acts like a heartbeat sensor but the mark above their heads disappear much much quicker?

Just a fancy way of saying ‘attackers’ or ‘defenders’. If you don’t care about the lore of the game, it’s completely meaningless. It has no effect on the gameplay.
