10th August Dev Stream Round-Up

(Faraleth) #1

UPDATE: As confirmed by @MissMurder it seems the update this week will definitely be the “hotfix” update I mentioned in the news, however it will not have any large changes. Sorry folks! - I have also removed a small amount of my own speculation from the comments provided. All here now is raw facts from the stream.

News:

 • The next update will be a “hotfix” update, featuring some of the issues raised today. It is ready to roll out “any day now”.
 • Better squad management – Try an improve how loadouts work, making them easier to manage and curate as a player.
 • Reworked lobby and store. – “Can’t provide much info right now, but this is soon to come.”
 • “Invisible back-end stuff”. – We can assume this is lag improvements and a more fluid experience.
 • Top-secret “Magic Button” feature. – There is no info on this, but there will be a “magic button”… Hm.
 • Question: Any hints on the next merc being released? – “It’s currently a split between 2 mercs. I cannot say any more for now…”
 • Question: Is there any plans to separate skins from weapon loadouts? – “That sounds like a fantastic idea.” -cheeky grin- (Please note, this is NOT a solid answer.)
 • PRIVATE LOBBY’S ARE BEING WORKED ON!! (Coming… soon.)
 • An SDK is being considered for Dirty Bomb (This however, will be a huge undertaking and will not appear for a long time as of yet).
 • There will be more graphics changes, so that some settings don’t give people an unfair “advantage”. Others may be reverted, especially those that are more performance focused.
 • Question: Will Aimee be coming soon? – “No idea when Aimee is coming out. She is definitely due to come out and there is work being done on her.”
 • There are some more balance changes planned, these will be rolling out soon.
 • Question: Will we ever see party creation for pub games, not just competitive? – “There are currently some changes planning on being rolled out soon.”
 • Question: What are you going to do about the falling player numbers, due to the Overwatch band-wagon? – We understand numbers are falling, but we are working on ways to help with this, such as the fixes to anti-cheat, a new competitive scene after the demise of Dirty Cups.
 • Question: Will there be optimisation updates any time soon? – Optimisation is being worked on as always.
 • A “test server” is being worked on. This will allow people to play content pre-release. There is NO ETA for this though.

Possible changes/updates:

 • Question: When will we be able to add people to the game from Steam community groups? – “This should already be in the game… If not, it will be added soon.”
 • Question: Will we ever see a price-drop for the elite cases, due to the high RNG factor? – “There are no CURRENT plans to change this, but we have made a note and will certainly look into this, as to what the general feeling about this is.”
 • Question: Will there be an update to the anti-cheat any time soon? – “We are definitely aware of the current exploits and hacks being used in the game and we have made some changes. They are currently being tested internally and an update should roll out over the next few days.”
 • Question: Will we be getting a colour-blind mode any time soon? – It’s not being worked on currently, but has now been added to a list of features that will be implemented. (Sigh, I was really hoping we’d be getting this soon :c)
 • Question: Will there be more ways to spend real-world money in the game? – “We certainly have lots of features planned for later down the life-cycle of Dirty Bomb. Some may cost real-world money, some may be credit cost and some may be completely free.”
 • Question: Are you going to remove the current melee turn limiter? – No. There are no plans to change it any more.

Extra info:

 • Guest “Ducks” – Senior Software Engineer, Splash Damage.
 • Question: Is Dirty Bomb compatible with Windows 10? – Not entirely. If you do not wish to run in to issues such as performance problems and compatibility errors, then DO NOT update to Windows 10.
 • Question: Will there ever be a bigger advantage to owning a silver or higher loadout in the future? – “There already is!.. YOU LOOK SHINEY!”
 • Fun fact: Shoe only plays with default, lead and iron loadout cards.

Enjoy! Until next time…

 • Faraleth

EDIT: Adding to #roundup

(Yak) #2

You forgot that there’s no plans to have more than 1-2 viable loadouts per merc because shoe plays with defaults.

Top-secret “Magic Button” feature. – There is no info on this, but there will be a “magic button”… Hm.
All I can think of is some kind of improvement to the party system, maybe one that extends to all game modes (public as well as comp).

Maybe when you click the Magic Button mercs are randomly picked and you play on a random map, a random mode.

Or maybe it doesn’t do anything, because it being magical is all we need.

(titaniumCrouton) #6

Don’t suppose they made any hints towards any possible balance changes? Like some hopeful m14 fixes and slight buffs?.. -big shiny eyes of hope-
With random hackers evenly distributed to each server.

(Faraleth) #8

@titaniumCrouton I’m afraid I did actually ask for details on buffs/balance changes, but they wouldn’t reveal anything specific… just that “they are coming” :s Sorry!

(titaniumCrouton) #9

@Faraleth Thanks for the update itself at least  and at least it wasn’t soon…and thanks for doing these threads! <3

(XavienX) #10

Ok, well definitely RIP Phantom. You will always be missed. July 2015-July 2015.

(Yak) #11

They noted that the sights were off.

(watsyurdeal) #12

Magic Button gives you a free elite case, inb4 enconomy rekt

(Faraleth) #13

@titaniumCrouton You are more than welcome c: I will be doing them for as many dev streams as I can! ^.^

(LifeupOmega) #14

I’m just waiting for community run servers and maps at this point.

(Faraleth) #15

@LifeupOmega I am afraid to report that was something they confirmed they did NOT have planned for the game. “We currently have no plans to allow privately hosted severs.” however, they ARE working on private lobbys, hosted by Nexon servers (so you can play with just your friends, etc.).

Of course, they did also mention the possibility of an SDK for the game, to allow players to create maps within the game itself. However, they said that would be “at least 6 months work”, so will likely come AFTER the main content is completed.

(-0wnage-) #16

Magic button directs you to a lag free, hacker free and noob free match which randomized maps and auto picked mercs with a limitation on the number of mercs that can be chosen with graphics opt. fully.

Or was I dreaming?

The melee turning limit is just a damn shame, it really feels broken right now and it pisses me off that I have to attack in a straight line without turning, just feels bad.

(Amerika) #17

I think he was making light of the question. If people are given 10 options, all with different features, the competitive people will all come up with 1 or 2 that will be most valuable and settle on those as the “only” choice. In reality the choice you make is very minimal in most cases (well, Get Up isn’t) and the main thing is you get the weapons you want THEN you get the couple of augments you want.

For example, there is a Sawbonez loadout that would be considered the best for competitive play BUT it comes with an SMG9 which still isn’t as well loved as the Crotni.

People will always min/max and regardless of the actual benefit they will consider those loadouts as the only “viable” ones even though the actual in-game value is pretty low most of the time.

(Yes) #18

Still no word on Fletcher fixes.

(Faraleth) #19

@Clown there is a bunch of balance changes a long list of bug fixes coming in the NEXT update c: Hopefully this will include the Fletcher ones! ^.^ (update will likely land this week)

EDIT: Corrected by MissMurder, below. Apparently slightly misunderstood.

Just want to clarify that this isn’t entirely accurate. There isn’t going to be an update this week aside from hot fixing. I think they meant the next update that will be in 2 weeks or so. Just also want to warn you guys not to take everything that is said on the stream totally to heart. Seems like some things get misunderstood at times and changes do happen.
