1.0 update, nice!

(Kira Best Waifu) #1

So, the 1.0 is out this is supposed to be a good news, with a lot of improvements and good things.

Oh, wait…

I started playing this game 3 years ago, I think the EV is bugged since the game release, 3 years and we are on 1.0, the update we all wait for.

Is that too hard to fix? a core game issue, this is what we have to do for win the game, repair and escort the EV.

Maybe I was expecting too much on 1.0…

(sorry for bad english)

(Press E) #2

At least it’s pretty obvious when it happens and all you have to do to fix it is let go. It can be annoying when you’re trying to rush a repair when no one’s looking though, since it’s like an extra second delay.

I’d say the EV’s other bugs are probably worse. Sliding across it and out of cover when you’re trying to repair is painful. Then there’s getting stuck on it in the middle of combat and not being able to move, euhg

The EV to its core is just so bugged though, I doubt fixing it would really be an easy thing. Not surprised they put it off with the amount of effort it would take, but it should have definitely been dealt with before 1.0. Having one of your core objectives so broken isn’t a good first impression

I really can’t believe that fixing the EV’s broke ass wasn’t a priority for 1.0. If it’s truly such a gargantuan effort to fix it, they shouldn’t have waited until after full release to turn their attention to it, assuming they ever do. It’s the only thing that truly frustrates me about DB.

(bgyoshi) #4

The devs have said multiple times over the years that the EV glitch is a problem with old DB code that’s so core to the game that they basically have to rewrite DB from scratch to fix it, and that they wanted to focus on 1.0 first to get to a point where it’s easier to fix.

(Szakalot) #5

the annoying thing about that statement is that the EV glitch only showed up during a patch in open beta, and not before

(bgyoshi) #6

The code was also significantly updated and modified in open beta, and the glitch showed up in late 2015 so I mean, it’s not exactly new. It was a thing that happened long before SD expanded their workforce, and once they did, they redid a lot of the game code and the solution became too big to be feasible.

(Kira Best Waifu) #7

So… “keep the game bugged because there is too much work for fix it” is the answer?
What’s the point of keep updating the game if more game code they edit and more complex become this issue to fix?
Imo ignoring a bug isn’t an acceptable answer, especially if they want DB to be a competitive game.

(shaftz0r) #8

as someone that has 100s of hours in this game, it doesnt happen anywhere near enough to even be considered a big problem. i find this line of thought to be nitpicking at best

(Terminal_6) #9

How you can play 100s of hrs and rarely see these issues if baffling to me. I can’t do any maneuver besides walking (and sometimes not even that) beside the EV without getting screwed.

(shaftz0r) #10

i guess our tolerance is different. I understand that collision is impossible to fix around every space and every pixel. Its been a fact of life in gaming since 1995. Also, it was a million times worse in ET, where i have thousands of hours :stuck_out_tongue:

(bgyoshi) #11

Because after about 3 instances of being glitched on the EV, most people just stop trying to walk against the EV. It’s called adaptation lol

Yes. I know you almost certainly weren’t around during Summer Squash in 2016 when all they did for almost six months was fix minor bugs (like the EV glitch) that players said were “unacceptable and game breaking”, and the player count plummeted into the floor.

As it turns out, fixing bugs, that players can easily avoid, that cost tens of thousands in man-hours and hinder your progress in game development are far more costly than developing the game and shelving the minor bugs until later.

Once they reach a point where they can afford to fix the error, they will. But for now, learn how to not hump the EV while running around it and you won’t ever encounter the EV bug. Easy as that

(Terminal_6) #12

Subconsciously avoiding the objective… that explains a lot, actually.

(bgyoshi) #13

Interesting spin on it.

I wonder how is it that I repair/push/walk around the EV without ever experiencing an EV glitch… hmm…I know I’m not special, but I’m accomplishing it somehow.

(Szakalot) #14

could it be a toggle vs hold-to-use difference? which one do you use?

(bgyoshi) #15

Hold to use, always

But pretty much, if you don’t push your body against the EV, it doesn’t glitch out. It’s literally that easy. There’s a huge proximity around the EV that you can stand in to push and repair it. Just learn the proximity and stand in it; you don’t have to mash against the EV to move it

(B_Montiel) #16

They simply forgot to back up old versions of the game.

I simply can’t believe this kind of excuses. Especially with that very engine that has been used and improved for 12 years now. Yes, there are issues with any mounting point sytem in any UE3 game (turrets, vehicules, even balistas in chivalry, every single one I saw is rotten to the core), but the collision issue is one I’ve rarely seen, to this extent at least.

Just like “There are no issues with servers we’re aware of”.

(D'@athi) #17

Getting some 2nd-level-UE3-support teaching your student(s?) probably costs more than 5% of your game’s revenue. Especially if everyone else nowadays is heading towards UE4.

And yes, lost all lingering respect with this obviously untested 1.0-“release”.
