Which Peripherals do you use for Competitive Play?
I bought myself the first gaming mouse as well this xmas - or should I rather say, a gaming rat! More precisely, a Cyborg R.A.T 7:

Yeah I know it’s totally overpriced and it won’t fix my horrible aim anyway (it’s unfixable), but the sexy mechanical “Terminator” look totally sold me

It got some buttons that I haven’t figured out how to program for something useful (in DB/FPS) yet - forward/backward buttons, and a second scroll wheel (for the thumb). It’s possible to program it for both key and mouse stroke actions, so if anyone have good ideas on how to best utilize that thumbwheel for example, let me know.

For the rest I have a rather traditional setup, the only thing I’ve changed from the default DB setup is swapping 1 and 3 - never gotten used to have primary on 1.
looks a crazy mouse. i saw these but wasnt sure how it would feel.
how are the thumb buttons.

(Scrupus) #42

Not used thumb buttons yet. I think the forward one would work fine, will try to bind something for it. The backward one feels a bit out of reach. But note that the main feature with this “rat”, is the mechanical adjustments options. So you can adjust how far out the “thumb wing” will be be from the mouse body, and how far back the palmrest thing will go - this can affect fingers/button positions quite a bit.

Pretty standard keyboard really. I don’t use much in the way of crazy combos for keys or anything crazy. Currently using this: http://steelseries.com/us/products/keyboards/steelseries-6gv2

For a mouse I’ve been using the Razer Mamba for a few years now. http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-mamba

Def make use of the two buttons on the left side of the mouse where my thumb rests. For instance in ET:QW and ET I usually set those keys for either melee or reload.

A microsoft Sidewinder keyboard: really happy with this, great feel and nice looks.
A Razer Diamondback 3G mouse: served me well for a couple of years already. Had some problems with the scrollwheel but that was fixed with a bit of cleaning. It’s starting to show some signs of wear now, coating is coming off and it becomes a little sticky. Works fine though. Sidebuttons I use a lot, always used them for push to talk in whichever voice program I’m running while gaming, works a treat.

Mouse = SteelSeries Sensei Pro Laser Gaming Mouse, 2 buttons on each side but only using 1 on each at the moment.

Mouse 1 = fire
Mouse 2 = jump
Mouse 3 = comms / PTT
Wheel = next / previous weapon
Left side 1 = scope / ironsight
Left side 2 = not used in DB at the moment
Right side 1 = sprint
Right side 2 = not used in DB at the moment

In ET I had a script to map buttons to functions depending on what class I’d chosen. Not sure if you can script in DB, tbh I’d rather you couldn’t as this would create a divide between casual pub players and comp players.

I suspect I’ll use one of the remaining side buttons for melee / knife, but not thought about it too much yet.

Keyboard = QPad MK-50 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

No special key assignments, though being a leftie I’ve always used the cursor keys for movement, which limits the other keys I can easily reach.

(SKTLZ) #46

Razer all the way  Deathadder,Blackwidow and kraken

(Hundopercent) #47

Razer Death Adder 2013
Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition

LMB Fire
RMD IS
MMB Unbound atm
MWU Health Packs
MWD Paddles
Thumb Button 1 - Used to be quick melee but it’s too slow, switch it to just push to talk on voice.
Thumb Button 2 - Unbound atm - I don’t like this button too much, as a claw gripper it’s hard to reach.
Most important bind 3 - Knife.

Not many people have mentioned mousemats and seeing as I am a mousemat fanatic I will list just a few which I highly recomend for a game like DB; Roccat Taito MTW edition, Razer mantis SPEED, boogie bug XL (for a big desk mat) or a nice cheap steelseries QCK+ (for those in the states i’d probably get the puretrak talent)

(Ashog) #49

well, mention if they are teflon or cloth at least…

(potty200) #50

Best thing to do if you want a new mousemat is to look at each one I have mentioned in more detail anyway. The reason I have mentioned these ones are because I feel you need more mousemat space then most other games, due to the amount people move about. I personally prefer soft mousemats with a slick top, might not be to your liking but check them out if you are actually looking for a new mousemat.

(Ashog) #51

well i have both large teflon and cloth pads (ultimat) but cannot decide which one is better :frowning:

they both feel different, but I cannot pinpoint which one is better for accuracy.

(potty200) #52

To be honest I don’t find a HUGE difference between cloth and teflon. Sure teflon has slightly less friction but they are both fairly similar. I found that the one I find most comfortable/best to play with was the roccat taito. It’s a huge mousemat and has, for me, the perfect amount of friction when moving my mouse. Here is a link: http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Mousepads/ROCCAT-Taito-mTw/

You might find them hard to come by now though!

(murka) #53

I did try teflon, but as i sometimes use the weird aim wiggle technique, they just have too little friction so cloth mat for me.
I can’t see me replacing my QPAD UC Large anytime in the future, it has served me well.
Honestly after moving in to dorm i noticed that a chair is much more important that choosing between this or that mousemat. Now I’m using only 60% of the mat space and sometimes i pull off the mat. Without an armrest it’s just impossible to use the back end of the mousemat.
